  1. Ditto on the 10k from G-town and good luck to anyone still waiting on their responses. I must say that I think their handling of the scholarship thing was pretty poor - no apology or anything. Also, even with 10k (or 12k), the G-town program is more expensive than GW assuming no merit aid from GW. I'm not really sure how they figure their education is worth 13k more than GW (the difference in cost estimates is largely in the tuition) nor, frankly, how they get away with it! Why do people go there over GW? Should the grad student market sort this out?
  2. Nice idea. Good to know your profs' work. If you have the time (it's 600+ words), read Steve Coll's book Ghost Wars. It's about the CIA, State, and White House's operations and policies in Afghanistan from the 70s to 9/11.
  3. Sounds like a GW option to me...=)
  4. This isn't a school reading list but it has served me well so far. Check out the State Dept reading list. http://careers.state.gov/resources/reading.html It's very international focused, which may or may not be a good thing for your interests, but I am more domestic focused and still found it excellent.
  5. Any other Duke MPP students or alum out there who have some thoughts about the sanford? I'm curious about career opportunities in Washington and the ability to study environmental policy. I did not apply to the dual/joint program - just mpp.
  6. Did anyone else receive an email? G-town is not being very professional, if you ask me. Lameo.
  7. I doubt it. Seems quite unlikely given the people on this board. I bet they're just taking their time.
  8. Nope. They say that you cannot apply to both programs somewhere on their site
  9. Ditto, no word yet and now it's 11:07am. Some people might call this sick. Look what we've become!
  10. Anyone receive the GPPI Scholarship Letter requesting an additional statement on GPPIs role in fulfilling your goals in the public policy field? It looks like they are still figuring out scholarship allocations.
  11. Yeah Brookings is a truly great place and I would highly recommend it. It is a highly academic environment that places an emphasis on attending lectures, events, and seminars. I tried to take full advantage of this and attended as many events as possible while I was there. I'd suggest that all MPPers in DC regularly check out the Brookings event page and not hesitate to register and attend interesting events. It is a great learning opportunity. I also found Brookings to be a very collegial and relaxed place to work. Somehow it manages to maintain a good perspective on "the daily grind" without sacrificing quality of product.
