I was wondering if anyone else applied for the Bohnett Fellowship on here. It was due on Sunday at midnight, with a week's notice. I imagine the competition is less heated for this fellowship because of the short turn-around, essay component, and perhaps the limited appeal of interning for the City of Detroit. The interview is April 7, but the website did not say when they would inform people they were finalists. If anyone knows this information, please share!

When to update Recommenders
StellaHaiti2 replied to StellaHaiti2's topic in Letters of Recommendation
I had the delightfully anxiety-producing timing to visit schools as they were releasing decisions, but luckily I was either accepted in person or a day or two before my visit. I mailed postcards from each school as I visited, in the convenient order of least prestigious to most prestigious. I said thank you for supporting me, a little something about my visit, and a reminder of what I would specialize in and opportunities at each school. On the first postcard I told them I was accepted to 2 more programs and to expect more mail! I let them know I would follow up via email after I make my final decision (around April 1). It was cheap, fun, and they experience some wonderful anticipation on my behalf! Plus, easy to display. -
Recommender says: Too Many Schools!
StellaHaiti2 replied to Ideal Impulse's topic in Letters of Recommendation
Wow, some are you are crazy. I applied to 5 schools because I eliminated the rest as not meeting enough of my interests. I was worried that 5 would be too much work for my letter writers, so I split it amongst 4 people. Letter Writer A: 5 Letter Writer B: 4 Letter Writer C: 4 Letter Writer D: 2 In some cases, I asked my letter writers what schools or cities they were most familiar with (I am transitioning fields) so they would feel more comfortable describing my fit with the school and community. I think you should allow the opportunity for a LOR to express reservations about committing to a certain number of letters. I would think 20 might make them VERY ANGRY. -
I am also probably accepting my offer after the accepted students weekend. I am having a current HKS graduate student keep an eye out for me for less expensive options near campus, and my brother (T employee) who advocates living further away but on the T line. I don't think a 20 minute walk is outrageous (even though it is Boston). Post any good ideas or opportunities for female or male roommates. I am considering a studio because I would desperately like to move back in with my cats.

I would be interested in an admitted student forum as well if anyone wants to pass on information.

I received no fellowship funding. Bummer. That means if Harvard gives me anything at all, I would be an idiot not to go there.

It's alright to e-mail about why you were rejected...

I tried this guys and I got a very short and useless email back that was very general. It did not work. -
Accepted MPP here. So I visited the campus yesterday and stopped by Admissions... the poor woman at the front desk was fielding all those angry calls about the MPA2 box. I think they will make the instructions more clear next year, so keep complaining. I also found out that there is no travel voucher for the Admitted Students Day. Bummer... but I guess they don't have to try too hard do they. I would receive a $250 voucher from another school for the same weekend, but it would still be cheaper to fly to Boston.

I was told today that the upper limit for travel reimbursement is $250. Bummer for me too, coming from Haiti.

3.5 GPA, architecture school 650V 750Q 4.5W (Guestimate, I can't remember) 2 years work experience in community development, in the middle of a year of volunteering/internship in Haiti now. No academic background in economics, politics, and nearly a decade since I did calc/stats in high school. However, I argued that I learned from real-life application in my various jobs. Hope that helps someone!

I GOT IN OHMIGOD. Not expected at all. Of course, all the schools I got into have the same accepted students weekend.

Anyone hear back from GSPIA
StellaHaiti2 replied to Matthew Gemberling's topic in Government Affairs Forum
I received my acceptance today for the MPA program... in person! I could only visit today, so potential drama be damned. I met with the enrollment counselor and I will be meeting with 3 professors throughout the day, so I'm hoping that gives a good picture of the school. Unfortunately they share the same admit weekend as my other acceptance. -
I am curious what everyone intends to do for their recommenders. I am excited to share my one acceptance so far, but I literally just heard. Should I wait and send asingle update when I have my options all laid out on the table?

I applied to University of Pittsburgh because of their option to get a minor in civil security and disaster management. http://www.cdm.pitt.edu/

I just got my acceptance to the Ford School, luckily while I am visiting my parents from where I normally live in Haiti. Our accepted students weekend is April 8-9, but I was thinking of visiting on Tuesday since I have never been to Ann Arbor (AND I AM EXCITED). Anything going on I should know about? Is it leather-jacket weather cold or poofy-coat cold?
-
I am not yet admitted to GSPIA, but I am visiting on Monday. I emailed to make appts with the enrollment counselor and some of the top profs and they got back to me right away. If for some reason I am actually rejected, I'm going to be mad that they were so nice to me! I decided to apply to Pittsburgh instead of one of the DC schools because I LOVE the city of Pittsburgh. It's got the industrial past that I love but seemed so vibrant when I visited briefly last year. Really hip, but not pretentious.

I got accepted!! I am super excited. It really made the rejection letter from WWS sting much less too. I'm happy too that they will help with transportation costs to visit, I need a little help coming from Haiti!
-
Rejected At least I got an acceptance right before that from the Ford School, so it wasn't as completely devastating as it could have been. I would have gone to Princeton though, no question.
-
Aw, bless you. I feel a little better now.

Well, harumph. I didn't get an email yet... are you all Human Security admits? I am going for plain old MPA in Policy Analysis. -
No email in my inbox yet. I'm really sad right now.

Just a few off the top of my head: What kind of housing do you have? Any estimates on average living expenses? What's your favorite class so far? Where do your classmates seem to be heading career-wise? Thanks fadeindreams!

I think we should hear back soon. I just scheduled a campus visit for Monday with the enrollment counselor and to meet with one of their top professors, and they got back to me right away. I don't think they would have a person (me) visit if they knew they would not admit someone (me). I would love an acceptance before I visit so I can get the most out of my trip. -
I'm guessing we will hear right after I make the trip and walk into their Admissions for a tour. So my guess is March 16, 4 PM!
