  1. I think it really depends on what you want from an MSW program. Both UChicago and Columbia have a very good reputation, so do not worry which name will be more of help upon graduation. In terms of job market, NYC may be a little better in International Development/Organization. If you wish to pursue a job in international settings, Columbia would definitely introduce you more opportunities. The differences b/w them, I think are the styles and approaches. UChicago is very academically oriented. It is more likely for you to get a RA there. Columbia's program has more elements of "business". Btw, clinical tracks in both UChicago and Columbia I think compare to each other, but NYU has a much better clinical program because they ONLY focus on that.

I have just recieved the acceptance letter via express mail. But I won't take it due to the high price tag, which is one of the most expensice MSW program in the nation. I think no one could have such a bad luck like me. I submitted my application by the Jan.15 deadline but had to resend my official transcript in mid March for the reason that the officiers missed it!!! I don't know whether you guys recieved an interview invitation, but I did. It is really the most simple interview that I have seen, just two rough qustions. Before I get the paper acceptance letter from the Graduate Office, I was notified by the Social Work School via email. Honestly to say, the administrative staffs are very kind, but I don't think their administrative system works so well. Good luck to all of you!
  3. BC definitely has a good reputation. As far as I know, their MSW program has a strong concentration on international social work. If I got to know them earlier, I would apply to it. The only thing that can delay me doing so was the high tution price tag plus the living expences is also much costing

When I wrote to Amber in mid March ,she told me she was able to consider me for the 1.15 deadline. But I have not received any reponse till now. The waiting is driving me crazy. Meanwhile I have to make a final decision on WUSTL's acceptance at the end of this month. By the way, does USC really beats WUSTL?

I am in the same position with you ! I sent my transcript last December but they missed it so that I had to resend it again. My application was not completed until mid March when I emailed Amber asking my status. I was told I will receive a decision letter no later than the end of April. So I guess you will probably get one around that time. If you are quite nervous about your status, don't hesitate to email or call them. Good luck to us
  7. I was also accepted at WUSTL. The cohort seems close knit and the professors seem to value their student's success.
  8. I couldn't agree more .I just worked out my essay and applied it to all the six schools by replacing each school's name and I guess that's part of the reasons Columbia rejecting me. I should say that's definetly a bad and stupid idea. The admission committee staffs can see how much work you have done on their required essays through just a glance. You know, applicants should show their respect and concerning regarding that school, otherwise how can you make them believe in your commitment. Remember carefully read all the requirements of each school word by word including the format. [ion quote name=MSW11' timestamp='1301951038' post='238337] I'm just not surprised because of how competitive it is. My GPA is close to a 4.0 for all upper division/major courses completed in the last two years. Plenty of professional work experience (not human service related though), lots of volunteer experience, some research experience, awards....I think it just wasn't a good fit for me and perhaps I slacked off on the essay prompts. I wouldn't have gone there anyway. I think this really needs to come across in an application by working very hard on your essay and matching it to their prompt. Being a good fit for the program and this coming across is another plus. I got into my top schools with funding, but waitlisted and rejected at the schools I would have been more hesitant about attending. My essays were all written for my top schools and tweaked for the others. Best advice for next year's applicants - work very hard on the essays for your top schools, as it will pay off!
  9. I did not apply to SFSU. But as far as I know it is really competitive very much. According to an academic article ranking social work schools by student slectivity, during 1990-2003 SFSU's MSW program had the number one ranking with an average admit rate of 17.4%. Anyway,no news is good news. Wish you good luck.
  10. I don't think that necessarily means you are rejected. They make admission decisions through March to June depending on several decison rounds. I was told my application is awaiting review and I should receive a decision on later than the end of April. So it may be the same case to you. Call them and aks which stage your application are at.
  11. Hi, guys. I also applied to CUSSW and am quite nervous to hear from them. After talking with the students in their MSW program, I was told Columbia is much better known for its clinical track. It seems that most people like clinical social work more. However, I am interested in the Macro ( policy and administration) concentration. Is there any one who could share something about thei policy practice and administration tracks? Any information and comments regarding that would be good! Thanks! Wish all of you good luck.

Yeah, It is Amber who emails me too. She is quite kind. But aftering sending her my transcript, she did not response me any more. My status still remains We are reviewing ……for almost two months. Hoping she will confirm me my application complete soon.

I submitted my application on almost the same date as yours. But I was informed incomplete because of lacking official transcript and have to resend it. I do not know when they can begin reviewing my application and reach a decision. Just wait, they seem to have the slowest processing.
