  1. I have just received confirmation from the graduate admissions office that "A status that reads 'Canceled' is one way of saying that your application was not accepted." I'm disappointed that it took this long (and the efforts of someone outside of the program itself) to confirm a decline. Best of luck to any still waiting/uncertain in this program.
  2. Classic. I've said this before, but it bears repeating: "If this doesn't motivate you to become an English professor, you're not one of us."
  3. Cheers! I am probably going to let it go until after St. Patty's (a very special day of the year for my tacky family) and will then take your advice. I'm actually not facing a decision at the moment, not really...Washington's my only acceptance at this point. If I'm in off the wait-list to Carnegie Mellon or Michigan State, then I'll have to do some quick research. I'm just in suspense.
  4. Sorry to hear it, Lyon and Germaine: Both of you have been wonderful to dialogue with, and I hope your academic path is a frutiful one (in case we don't chat much from here on in).
  5. Would you contact them now if you were me RE funding? I was notified of acceptance (PhD) on Saturday.
  6. Your advice certainly makes sense. However, I'm far enough along in my communications with OSU (which I won't go into too much, let's just say they've been flawed) that I'm willing to say "I sent a formal status update inquiry a week ago. I'll keep waiting." That's the extent of my curiosity.
  7. I just got mine on Saturday. You're probably still within the realm of regular, explicable postal processes. Sorry if this seems dismissive. I'm a comp/rhet (rhet mainly) in case that isn't clear.
  8. I echo the thanks about the blog. Will encourage my MA program's comp./rhet. profs. to give it a good look for future reference.
  9. For whatever it's worth, I think that my Statement of Purpose (while an excellent piece of writing for what it is) fails to meet the scope of the blog. I think I got in on other merits.
  10. Thanks to you both! Runon...I don't think I'm still in the running for OSU. My status changed from "incomplete" (transcript missing) to "canceled" (which, while it's very strange wording, doesn't sound like it could possibly be positive).
  11. Congrats again RE your acceptance. Let me know if you receive notification RE funding? We're in the same boat exactly, as far I can tell.
  12. Just received acceptance materials from Univ. of Washington-Seattle. Cloud nine. Key note: I received no information (one way or the other) RE funding. Best of luck to all!
  13. Just received acceptance materials from Univ. of Washington-Seattle. Cloud nine (even if funding info wasn't specifically included). Best of luck to all!
  14. Thanks for the info! Sorry if my essence appeared to be hateful; wasn't the reality behind the trickle, I assure you.
  15. My personal update: I have been waitlisted by two programs which I would be thrilled to get into. . It's wonderful to get feedback saying you're in the "cream of the crop" category...I just hope that somehow my creamy croppiness actually gets me into a program.
  16. Thanks for the further clarification. I guess I don't get why they'd separate the acceptance and funding letters; seems to me that so many applicant decisions are made based upon funding that they won't get many answers without that information.
  17. Thanks and congratulations. What is your area of concentration?
  18. Honestly, I think I'm going to give this advice and then try to follow it: I heard, simply, "March." It's best not to expect anything beyond notification during this month...especially since it's probably the school's objective to meet that goal, and that goal alone.
  19. Thanks, all. Checking this site ten times a day is the most constructive form of masochism I've ever partaken in.
  20. Have they begun to email rejections and/or waitlists as well?
  21. Thank you very much for this update.
  22. Given that my status just changed (RCL program), I think you'd be justified in contacting them RE yours.
  23. No, I wasn't invited (partly, I'm sure because I'm a PhD-only applicant and so they don't know if they want me yet at all). Congratulations on your admission, even if the circumstances aren't perfect. It's a great program and I'd be thrilled to see you there.
  24. Does "final decisions" mean "we'll know who's coming in the fall" or just "we'll know whom we've accepted, rejected, and waitlisted?" An important distinction to make...probably impossible for them to know who's coming in the fall by then...that would assume that not only all the original acceptances had made up their minds, but all of those who had been waitlisted had done so as well. OY VEY.
  25. It appears that I have been declined (following a weird delay). My status now reads "canceled"...hard to regard that as a good thing.
