  1. I think I'm going to have to reject their offer. Not because I don't want to attend- I definitely do- but because of the whole (non-) funding thing.
  2. Brian, I know that you said that you can't speak to job placements, etc., but I was wondering if you had a sense of whether the quantitaitve nature of Harris puts graduates at an advantage when compared to graduates from other quantitative policy programs, such as those at Georgetown and Heinz? On an intellecutal level I would love to go to Harris because of its quant focus, but I wonder if the extra cost will really put me at an advantage to those coming out of other quantitative programs. Thanks!
  3. Just wanted to add a bit to this. Lydia did seem a bit over-the-top, but I would say in a good way. I think I would feel a lot more comfortable with someone like her running the show than with the people that I saw from either Maxwell (unenthusiastic) or Heinz (ridiculously inexperienced). As far as the earnings statistics, it seems about the same as most other MPP/MPA programs for new graduates, which is another reason why I find it difficult to reject a school that's actually offering me a substantial scholarship.
  4. After being there for about an hour I was pretty much sold that this was the perfect school for me. They basically emphasized the quantitative nature of the program, the easy access to university-wide resources and classes (such as more advanced economics/statistics/political science), the 'Harris brand' that employers look upon favorably, and that they will push you and challenge you at every turn, even if it means putting you in PhD-level econometrics classes. However let's just say the school was "less than generous" with their funding so I am most likely going to CMU Heinz instead. A shame, but I'm slowly coming to terms with it as April 15th approaches.
  5. Thanks everyone for the comparison of Heinz and Harris. I found the ifnormation useful. I'm now wondering if the difference between the two -- Harris being more formally quantitative/theoretical and Heinz being more managerial -- will play out in the job market. Wil one school's approach more in deman in the job market:? I am asking this as I thoroughly enjoyed my visit at Harris but going to Heinz will save would save me something like $40,000 in tuition
  6. Namename, I am in the exact same situation with those three schools. Harris is truly my first choice, but it's very hard for me to overlook the savings of Maxwell. Can anyone speak to whether Harris is 'good enough' to justify about $25,000 in loans when I could go to Maxwell (and perhaps CMU) debt free?
  7. I am in the same situation. I'm debating between Heinz and Harris. I'm looking for a quantitative and domestic policy focused program, and both schools seem to match that criteria. I estimate that Harris would cost me an exta $5,000 per semester, or $20,000 over the two years and am trying to gauge if it's worth the extra money.
  8. In but no funding as well. Probably will choose Heinz over this, but will take a few days to make my final decision. EDIT: last name begins with 'W'
  9. The real question is: who can most closely predict the next email update?
  10. It is now Thursday. Has ANYONE received an acceptances/rejection email at this point (excluding those that heard weeks ago)?
  11. I think Ms. Decarlo is probably cursing her employer right about now for not having an automated system
  12. Harris sure likes to hang us in suspense, don't they.
  13. And it looks like it goes into next week..... I was hoping the waiting would finally be over with by today
  14. Has anyone applied for the dual MP/MA Econ program and heard back from the Economics department?
  15. Even knowing this won't stop me from obsessively checking my email every 2 seconds.
  16. Hey I got my funding from GPPI today as well. Do you know if the scholarship amount specified is per semester or per year? It's not clear to me.
