I'm in too! DC Campus. Anybody know if you can switch into Bologna in you applied for DC. I didnt think I could do it when I applied, but it seems more appealing now. By the way, does anyone have an idea of their acceptance rate in terms of % of applicants admitted?

Hearing from the Kennedy School?
anxiouslywaiting replied to wabbitt09's topic in Government Affairs Forum
So I just was an email with the title admissions decision and in my crazed state of mind did not realize it was a SAIS acceptance rather than a Kennedy email for a good 15 seconds. Good news, but my heart is still set on Kennedy! I wonder how comparable they are in terms of selectivity. -
Hearing from the Kennedy School?
anxiouslywaiting replied to wabbitt09's topic in Government Affairs Forum
sure but the vast majority of people who apply have at least close to those numbers i would guess. they prob can only eliminate about 10% (if that) for weak numbers. it gets a little random from that point forward..... by the way, i have always wondered whether the verbal score even really matters to these schools. like, if you have a stellar verbal score is that even that much of a boost? seems the talk is always about quant..... -

Congrats to all the MPA-ID acceptees! I hope my friend Alex is among you! I guess no MPP decisions today, but I have a feeling it could be tomorrow. It just seems a little much to wait until after their break (which is next week). Fingers crossed! -

COngratulations! Hopefully this is a good omen for the entire Grad Cafe family! Looks like MPA-ID had the exact same notification schedule as MPP last year. Does this mean today is the day for all of us? -
Hearing from the Kennedy School?
anxiouslywaiting replied to wabbitt09's topic in Government Affairs Forum
I really don't know what to think about my chances at HKS at this point. I got accepted with major funding at GSPP and Fletcher, but received the total cold shoulder at WWS and SIPA. So it has been a total mixed bag thus far. I have to admit my applications to WWS and SIPA were more haphazardly put together since I knew I probably would not be able to attend b/c my significant other has no school options in NYC or Princeton. So I am attributing the rejections to that at least partially in my mind. But now I have no clue as to which way HKS will go. I am sure there are others out there who are similarly confused... -
IGA Program Harvard Kennedy School
anxiouslywaiting replied to Sroek's topic in Government Affairs Forum
I applied to IGA as well, although I was unaware of any additional funding associated with the concentration. I have insider info that Kennedy is trying to develop its image as a program that is also strong in IR rather than focused almost solely on the traditional (and more domestically-oriented) aspects of public policy. That it why they added the new concentration. It will only give applicants an edge in admissions if very few people indicated IGA was their preferred concentration, but given the number of people on this forum who seem to have selected it, it may not have much of an effect. Could someone explain what they heard about this additional funding? -

Best Grad Cafe post of all time. If you really want to start a frenzy, post something similar on the Harvard thread... -

Sorry to add another non-related point, but I have heard a great deal about the Fletcher Mafia but never the Maxwell Mafia. Plus I have heard Syracuse is the worst... -

how unlucky to be in the very tiny minority which is left in limbo...although i have to assume that it means we were at least not rejected right away! -
Hearing from the Kennedy School?
anxiouslywaiting replied to wabbitt09's topic in Government Affairs Forum
so do we believe this in a literal sense or do we think this is just their attempt to cover for themselves and keep us from continually asking them when decisions will be out? like are we actually not going to hear from them for another two weeks? or do we still think there is a chance it will be, say, this friday? -
Harvard OEB/Sys Bio, MIT Microbiology
anxiouslywaiting replied to anxiouslywaiting's topic in Biology
by the way, I am asking for my significant other, which is why you see all of the non-science programs on my signature! -
Anyone accepted to Harvard OEB, Harvard Systems Bio or MIT Microbiology but not planning to attend? I am curious about chances of getting of the waitlist at any of those three...

Hearing from the Kennedy School?
anxiouslywaiting replied to wabbitt09's topic in Government Affairs Forum
i hope you arent too offended by our silly banter jmoney! just trying to deal with the stress of waiting, which i am sure you can relate to. thanks for offering to field questions. i dont think any of us question the rigor and quality of HKS, that is pretty well established. I am curious about the atmosphere and environment though. I knew someone who went there for mid-career and he said there was not a lot of camaraderie among the students, which other schools like Fletcher are well known for. Could you just speak to what your experience has been in that regard and just any general comments you have about the school? Thanks! -
Hearing from the Kennedy School?
anxiouslywaiting replied to wabbitt09's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Yes! Let's all declare that we will not go to Kennedy unless they notify soon. Hopefully they have spies looking at Grad Cafe (the SIPA admissions director admitted he reads grad school admissions blogs) and that will prompt them to get the ball rolling. -
SIPA Acceptance Today?
anxiouslywaiting replied to anxiouslywaiting's topic in Government Affairs Forum
I would not assume that if you have not heard yet that you have been rejected. If they had decided to reject you already, they have no reason not to let you know. They just haven't made a decision on your application yet. They told me they had misplaced some of my documents and therefore were just starting to review my application last week. -
Hearing from the Kennedy School?

so if we know the admits come out before the phone-a-thon and that is set to start on Wednesday, then it is not unlikely that acceptance emails could come out today or tomorrow... -
Hearing from the Kennedy School?
anxiouslywaiting replied to wabbitt09's topic in Government Affairs Forum
As an MPP applicant, I am wondering if this phone-a -thon applies to me since the postings from past years indicate that MPP applicants found out via email. -
I just thought everyone should know that those who were accepted Early Notification in December received an email which said that all of the rest of the students who have been accepted have been contacted. Perhaps that is not really the case due to technical problems, but that is what they indicated to us. Congrats to everyone who has heard already and good luck to everyone who is still trying to access their decision!

Hearing from the Kennedy School?
anxiouslywaiting replied to wabbitt09's topic in Government Affairs Forum
It is very difficult to deduce what they mean when they say "the end of March" because other schools have said similar things and then issued their decisions several weeks earlier. My money would still be on next week for acceptances because they know people need at least a few weeks to figure things out. -
Berkeley GSPP Strengths/Weaknesses

Yes there is an acceptance posted now too. I guess that means we'll be getting the mail soon. Too bad I'll be out of the country. -
SIPA Acceptance Today?
anxiouslywaiting replied to anxiouslywaiting's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Don't worry. I haven't heard either. In fact, I emailed them and they told me that my application had just been opened for review and it could be quite some time before I hear from them. -
Berkeley GSPP Strengths/Weaknesses
anxiouslywaiting replied to policy_applicant's topic in Government Affairs Forum
On the one hand, it seems unlikely that it was real given that there was only one. However, why would someone make that up? Especially since it was a rejection. Maybe this guy just lives down the street from GSPP so it arrived really quickly or something. Wow, I can't believe I'm partaking in this kind of speculation. This process is turning me into a nut job. I even wrote to GSPP to beg them to email my decision since I'll be out of the country. Doubt that will do any good. -
I really thought I would have already heard from several schools this week. I just need one decision before I leave for vacation to satiate my appetite for information! Harvard has indicated their decisions will be coming out later than usual due to the rise in applications and perhaps other programs are in a similar position. All of that amounts to more waiting for us!

SIPA Acceptance Today?
anxiouslywaiting replied to anxiouslywaiting's topic in Government Affairs Forum
yeah, from checking the description on the admissions blog, it seems that a little under half of applicants are still under review, either because there was not a consensus on their application among the admissions staff or they are being considered for funding. so lets hope all of us who havent work have big funding offers coming our way!
