  1. I wake up this morning and see that it is snowing. I can't wait until I put this place in my rearview mirror.
  2. I am in a similar situation. My lady works in the banking and finance field so she is on the job hunt there. Wells Fargo and few other companies have a serious presence in El Paso. I will be in El Paso in late June on a house hunting tour, close to campus would be nice. Added benefit, my younger cousin told me that she and husband will be in the area, he recently received orders to Fort Bliss. I am ready to get started but I am not looking forward to nearly a 1700 mile road trip.
  3. It was expensive but I only had to do it once. I guess each person, program, and goal is different. More is never worse expect of course for the cost.
  4. I don't know too much about Rochester. I do know that Purdue is an excellent school with a good program. What field of psychology are you planning to work in?
  5. I am going to be in the legal psychology program. Where will you be in the department? I plan on moving to El Paso in late July/early August.
  6. Those kind of decisions are not too bad to have. Regarding POI, that is a little unclear at the moment because of faculty committments outside of the university. C'est la vie. Everything is working out well.
  7. I have used Tedtalks to stimulate discussion in a class. They work well when you can find one that addresses, even peripherally a topic in the course readings.
  8. I will not miss the bone-numbing, soul-crushing cold winters. Michigan drivers who are shocked to see snow and ice. Bland food.
  9. So the decision is made. I have accepted the offer from UTEP. Good program. Next step, figure out what I am going to do with myself over the summer.
  10. Getting 15 applications together (correctly) and getting the materials sent to the right places was almost like having another class that semester. I am not sure if I would recommend that approach but it certainly helped. I did pretty good considering the outcome.
  11. Though I have two schools left I am tired of the grind. I have a great offer sitting here and I want to have this done. Wednesday is the decision day.
  12. I have read several posts and it seems that many people are applying only to a few schools. I applied to 15. I ended up, so far, with 3 acceptances and two waitlists (one waitlist became a rejection). Is it normal for people to apply to less than 5 schools?
  13. It looks likely. Still no word from the other two competitive schools. I will hold out as long as I can to see if they make an offer then I will just compare the offers. UTEP is a remarkable program, it would be difficult to beat. There is also the awesome food.
  14. News from Tulane, They have made some offers but others are coming certainly. There will be more offers made. All I want to do is get all the chances off of the table so that I can make the best choice for my future. To all the schools out there, all of them. When a person spends the time and effort to build a strong GPA, and expends the effort to bring in a competitive GRE score, and then goes through the process and expense of applying to a school; it is only appropriate and a matter of professional ethics to respond. A stamp is cheap compared to the price of the application. If that is too much of financial burden then a phone call or a short impersonal email will suffice. The University of Florida, Chapel Hill, and Virginia were professional enough to let me know that I was rejected in a short time. No harm no foul. I didn't make the cut. UTEP and a few other schools were kind enough to let me know that I was accepted in relatively short order. I understand if a school got a late start on the selection process. Responding to an email or a phone call would be just polite. B
  15. I picked up a few acceptances, I got waitlisted at a backup school. I have just a few more weeks in this semester then I will pick up a summer gig to just earn a bit more money for the move. It is a long trip from Michigan to El Paso.
