  1. I'm applying to PhD programs this fall, and obviously want to do all I can to make a good impression and improve my chances of being accepted. I'm going to be meeting with a professor that I am interested in working with over Skype. I had originally wanted to visit this professor in person, but given scheduling issues and the cost of flights, we've decided to meet via Skype instead. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can prepare for this meeting?
  2. Thanks! It's a small program so I'm sure we'll see each other around! i have two friends in the school psych program and they both love it, and Calgary. If you choose it, I'm sure you'll be happy.
  3. I applied to Calgary for the PhD in Counselling Psych. I'm curious to know when they'll start notifying the PhD applicants. I heard from someone who's already in the program that they haven't gone out yet.
  4. Hi, I noticed your program of interest is Counselling Psychology, did you apply to the Masters or PhD. I'm still waiting to hear back from my schools, one of which is Calgary.
  5. I completed my Bachelor of Science at McMaster in Psychology, and I think it's a great school. I can't for certain explain why you haven't heard much about it for your PhD, but I'll tell you what I know. McMaster has won several research university of the year awards, so it ranks highly as a school for research. Even in the psychology department research is heavily emphasized and not clinical or counselling skills. I can't speak for your program of interest, but I know that McMaster is well known for it's medical school and the sciences, so graduate studies in life sciences, health sciences and similar programs are strong. From my experience talking to friends who studies humanities at McMaster, something that deterred them from continuing with graduate studies there was because of the specific research interests of the professors, but I'm assuming that could happen at any school. Overall, from my experience McMaster is a great school with an inviting environment and it's highly respected among the top schools in Canada.
  6. Thanks for the words of encouragement! I hate how I've lost my ability to think about anything other than getting an application response in the last week. I can't wait for things to go back to normal, even if the result is that I'm rejected. I am also a fan of the "sniper" approach. I've only applied to one school.
  7. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if schools usually send out PhD acceptances/rejection before or after MA acceptances/rejections, or if they're likely to do it at the same time. In the result section there have been several notices for the MA portion of a related department, but nothing about PhD spots, or from the department that I have applied for.
