So it has finally sunk in that I am an alternate... I am pretty disappointed but I cannot say I am surprised, as everyone who is s finalist is very deserving of receiving the grant, I was hoping the fact that I practiced for 2 years to become fluent in Norwegian would give me some competitive advantage, but apparently not I have decided to just put it in the back of my mind and treat it as a rejection basically, since I have to start making plans for next Fall and cannot sit around and wait MORE to hear if I got it or not, especially since I do not even know which alternate I am! So time to make some other plans and if I do end up getting it, well that will be a nice little surprise! Hope all the other Norway applicants who found out today are handing it okay and deciding what their next moves are.. We should all feel proud for making it this far, anyway! Hang in there to all you alternates out there!

Hi Karl Johan! Looks like we are in the same boat! Alternates... well at least we did not get flat out no's but I am a little worried that there are 3 alternates on this thread.... The chances of 3 principal grant offers being turned down does not seem too high, not to be a pessimist. I also emailed Rachel asking about which alternate I am, and she did not answer, and I am guessing she will not either, which I think is a little unfortunate as the number I am in line will have a large impact on what I decide to do for next year... Sigh! Let me know if you hear anything! I would at least like to know HOW MANY alternates there are.. if there are three alone on this thread we can assume there, there are probably a couple more... hmmm.

Thanks At least it was not a "no"! Nope, just the letter but they said they will call or email if a grant opens up! Have you heard yet?!

Just got my letter in the mail, I am an alternate for Norway. Other Norway applicants should probably find out soon. Could have been worse, but still, MORE WAITING... thanks. Just going to start planning my life as if I did not get it, I guess. Good luck to everyone else.

Well, if your grant proposal included coursework at a specific university than yes, from what I understand, you have to be accepted in order to receive the grant. From what I understand if you are granted the award, it will be conditional upon your acceptance by the university if that was what you used as you affiliation in your application. That is what I was told, but you might want to check with your country/regional coordinator just to make sure, it may vary country by country. Which country are you a finalist for? Good luck!

As far as I know you need to apply and gain admission separately from your Fulbright application. I am going to university to begin a masters program and I applied and got accepted to the school three weeks ago. On the Fulbright website it also says you need to gain admission to the university independently. Hope that helped!

Yes, that sounds about right! It's still early, you have a good chance to get off the alternate list i'd say. Maybe you should ask the country advisor if they have any information they can give you about it? You never know.

ETA's must get rejected, at least for certain countries. I believe they follow the 1.5 to 2 rule as well, so I would find it hard to imagine it is any different, my friend got eliminated as a finalist for en ETA to Sweden last year. By the way, any Norway news out there?!?!

Well congrats on your MA plans Sounds exciting!! Usually people who apply for these awards have plans A, B, C.. hence why there are alternates! Glad you finally made your decision, it always feels better afterwards!

Congrats to you, as well! I know, she emailed me yesterday asking if I had heard, since the Norway applicants had heard mid march the previous two years! Ahh! That is great that Italy notifications are being sent out this afternoon-- Keep me posted on if you get the award or not! We should definitely keep in touch! Try not to lose too much sleep this weekend

Nice, sounds interesting. Well I would be doing a combo of 1st year masters and research for my thesis. Scandinavian democratic management models, mainly why they are more efficient than the ones used in American corporations. I would also be taking the first year of my MSc in International Management while doing the research. I have learned how to speak Norwegian so that should make life more interesting over there. Where in Italy would you be going?

Well nothing in the mailbox and no email from Fulbright, looks like another week of waiting for Norway is in my future.. YAAY! The only positive thing to be taken from this week is... that I did not yet receive a no! Hope is still alive:)

Oh wow, well sounds great. Yea we are quite a diverse bunch. I hope we all hear soon "they will be sent out within the week" I am not sure if she meant within the next 7 days or like by the end of this week as in tomorrow. Doubtful but who knows.

Same Did you apply to study or just to research? I applied to study/do research for my masters thesis in Oslo. How about you? Maybe we will both be in Norway next year, fingers crossed!
