I only emailed the professors that I was really, really interested in working with. So it was about 10. I got really nice and helpful responses from them, even the ones who were writing to say they weren't accepting students this fall.

My program only charges tuition per credit hour while you are doing coursework (first 2 1/2 to 3 years) then you just pay a "doctoral studies" fee until you finish your Ph. D. I think it varies based on the institution, I am going to a private university. Do you have a specific school in mind?

LOL yeah a phone call like that will do that to a person. Congratulations on your acceptance! That's how I felt when I was called up by my POI and offered a fellowship! I was dazed and overjoyed, and I forgot where I was (in my car; it's a good thing I wasn't driving!) and when I hung up my 7 daughter cried "yaaaayyyy!!" from the back seat.
