  1. Hi, My name is Anicca and I am currently doing my Mphil in gender studies and working on disability and gender in India. I am disabled and suffer from a cronic illness too. I gave my GRE around 3 years ago and have a score of 307 (V:154, Q:153). There are two questions that I wanted to ask: Firstly, what are the best disability studies phd programs in US, especially where people are working on sociological exploration of disability and/or on intersections of disability and gender. Secondly, what is the medical insurance scene for disabled students, do they get any additional benefits financially (I am an Indian citizen) It would be great to know something before I apppy. I am 32 years old now and have done all kinds of things. From working in rural development as a researcher to being an independent columnist for newapapers and newswebsites. Plus I am working on something where my politics and personhood merge. So I am very passionate about it. I want to work with the best profs working on the disability but at the same time it would be great to have an accessible, financially and medically supportive environment while I slog it out academically. Please help me out with advice and suggestions. Regards, Anicca
  2. Hi, I am a student from India, with an undergraduate degree in political science and a Grade A (GPA: 4.56/6) in my Masters degree in Development Studies from a reputed university. I have been working in research as well as consultative roles in governance reform and public health sector for last five years. I am planning to return to academics and have been meaning to apply to a Phd course for sometime now. My GRE is score is a mediocre 307 (verbal:154, Quant: 153 and AWA: 4.0) and my TOEFL ibt is 111 (29 in all sections except speaking (23)). Now, the thing is, I have had a difficult life due to congenital defects in my body and I am at the stage of life where I want to do a Phd because I want to learn but don't want to get into the highly competitive academic scenario. Preferably, I would like to pursue a course where I have some degree of freedom in terms of time schedules since my body reacts badly under pressure. Can you guys suggest me some universities, keeping my scores in mind?
  3. So, I just gave the revised GRE Test on 2nd and since I am from India, the access to books on new gre which I had was for a limited amount of time. Nonetheless, in the end they showed my range in the old format and it was around 700 in quant and 530 in verbal(this hurts, since i don't really know what went wrong)....I have to wait till November for the new revised scored but I am confused about how to go about judging the score...should I give it again?? I have a B.A(hons) in political science with a 61%(first class) average score and an M.A in Development studies with a GPA of 4.56/6 (Grade A). I am planning to apply to P.hd courses in political science (with emphasis on political theory/political philosophy)...I was planning on applying at Princeton, Yale, and Boston College. I also have work experience of around a year with few reputed international research organisations. Can anyone suggest me how badly do I need to retake the GRE for getting through pol theory in the above mentioned colleges..also if someone could suggest me lower ranked places for good theory courses??
  4. Hello everyone, I am planning to apply to a p.hd course in the U.S next year. I have completed my B.A(H) in Political Science and M.A in Development Studies(Both from India). I am planning to apply to a p.hd course in political science and finding it hard to track down options for my research area. I am keen to work in the area of political philosophy with an emphasis on exploring relationships between justice and populism. Also, I am keen on doing more theoretical research with a qualitative orientation rather than quantitative. Since most of the political science departments have a quantitative orientation, I was wondering if anyone could suggest me the names of the universities where I might be able to find Profs who have similar interests and orientation. Also, If someone could suggest me how I should approach them, it would be really helpful. Thanks.. Abhishek
