  1. I have a very practical approach to the whole "socially awkward" aspect-- why don't you enroll in some acting classes?I've been doing acting and public speaking for over 5 years and I've seen so many people becoming a little more open, extroverted, and confident after taking any "Method"-related acting classes (such as Meisner technique, in other words, anything by the acting "classics" such as Stella Adler or Lee Strasberg). Those classes really teach people how to be less self-conscious and more communicative because they show you how to "read" and understand other people and their emotions and feelings at the moment better. I would also recommend taking dance classes-- salsa, merengue, bachata etc--anything that makes you less self-conscious and helps you "read" and understand the movements and expressions of another person. Good luck!
  2. man, just come over here, Austin is awesome and there is a big Indian community in the North Austin Area (although, since most of those guys are well-employed in semi conductors industry, the restaurants are pretty expensive

I feel like the reeding comprehension part preparation is not that good because apparently they don“t really know that well what to expect on the new GRE so I am freaking out a lot about reading comprehension, how do you study for that part?

Yep. GRE and Chinese final. I'm having the worst time trying to prioritize things.

  4. I've gone through the Princeton Review book (I think they were the first ones after ETS to publish anything on the new GRE) and I think the sentence completion part is great, but reading comprehension is not. The problem is all these companies are probably not even sure about what is going to be on the revised version, so they haven't figured out any maverick strategies to tackle it. In other words, I am a little frustrated with the whole Revised GRE thing and looking for some materials that could really help to ace it.
  5. that's what I could never understand about Cambridge-how come everything closes so early?I remember desperately looking for a coffee shop around 11 p.m.(Harvard Square area) and I couldn't find anything. Do people study at coffee shops at all?Do they only go to the library? How do they survive without a coffee boost?
  6. oh yeah, I completely agree!!!And if the student's focus is paleoanthropology for example, I would double major in biology. Also, from my friends' experience, any geosciene major is a benefit because the recent trends in archaeology lean towards an extensive knowledge of a "geo science" specialized software (I've no idea what kind of software they use, but they're always running around the depratment proccupied with whatever GIS or something shows in the research, no idea what that is).
  7. I think geology would be a perfect second major if you are very interested in archaeology. Or any geo sciences in fact.
  8. I am trying to submit a part of my undergrad Honors thesis I'm writing right now and I am a little bit puzzled with AAA website (that's what's called being a foreign student who is new to AAA): is it possible to submit an abstract online, that's my main question?Do you just register as a member?I would greatly appreciate it if somebody shares an experience of submitting a paper to the AAA conference!
