  1. Thanks for the posts! I'm interested in the Beats and female poets (Plath and Sexton). I know those are two totally different fields, but I'm still exploring... Any helpful advice concerning theory (and where to begin) would also be appreciated. BTW- I applied to WUSTL and U Chicago and was rejected- do you think I should reapply next year? Thanks
  2. Thanks for the post. I'm mainly interested in American Poetry after WWII. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
  3. Hello poetry lovers! Since next year I plan on reapplying, can anyone recommend excellent Poetry & Poetics programs? Who are the leading critics out there (aside from the soon-to-be-retired Vendler and Perloff)? Can you recommend good reading material in preparation for next year (mainly theoretical)? I don't live in the U.S. and our resources are slim; nonetheless, I have access to major online databases (jstor, etc.). Thanks again for your help, M.
  4. I want to thank everyone for your quick replies! The reason I asked is because I know some schools keep your application on file. I'm afraid that when the time comes, they will compare the two applications and/or reject the current application based on the previous one. Of course, nothing is certain and your comments will be helpful next year. One thing I learned throughout this process- some of these schools did me a favor! I wasn't a good "fit" and next year, hopefully, I'll get into a program I'll be happy to attend. Best of luck! M.
  5. Dearest gradcafe users, I want to thank everyone for their comments and advice- you've all made this process a lot smoother. Unfortunately, it looks like I'm going to have to reapply next year. Therefore, I wanted to know if there are people here that reapplied to the same schools this year (after being rejected) and got accepted (if so- CONGRATS!). From my understanding, if you were waitlisted and reapply, you have a higher chance of getting in. However, if you were automatically rejected, there's almost no point of reapplying. I'd be happy to hear personal experiences (hopefully success stories), advice, guidelines, etc. Wishing everyone the best of luck!
  6. Hi MyshkinLit, A friend of mine attended the recruitment weekend, and he basically said that if you weren't there, you've been rejected. Sorry to break the news- I'm in the same boat. I'm also waiting for them to let me know if I was rejected/waitlisted
  7. Does this include offers for the joint Ph.D. in Literature & Creative Writing? Or were the 9 offers for Eng. Lit. only? Thanks!
  8. I noted Berkeley made a number of offers (funded and unfunded). Does anyone know if they finished their round of calls? Are they still making offers? How many people were admitted to their program? Thanks and good luck to everyone!
  9. I saw they started notifying people and waited about 2 weeks before contacting them. Then I emailed and asked. I'm looking into funding options since my acceptance is on an unfunded basis... which is definitely NOT an option for me. If anyone knows how to get financial aid, please let me know! Good luck to you and everyone else!
  10. Thank you for your quick reply! I was accepted into the Ph.D. program. I guess I'll have to wait for the packet to arrive... Have a great weekend!
  11. Hello fellow gradcafe users/addicts! I finally caved in and opened a profile here I contacted Buffalo and was happy to find out I got accepted (my first acceptance)- BUT- without funding. Since I live overseas, my packet is still on its way, and I do not know what type of funding I receive, if at all. To other Buffalo students without funding- do they waive tuition fees? Do you know if it's possible to apply for other fellowships? Are they helping at all, or will I have to pay for my education? I heard about FASFA- what is it and what are the deadlines? (I have dual citizenship). Thank you and good luck to everyone!
