  1. There's going to be a free workshop and campus tour event for the MSW program at UCLA this Saturday on December 1st. Even if you are not planning on applying to UCLA, please consider attending if you are in the SoCal area. There will be one-on-one personal statement help for all attendees, plenty of free UCLA swag, free breakfast and lunch, and many of the application readers will be present if you want to ask them questions about what they look for. More information and registration links here: http://www.facebook.com/UCLAMSWDiversityFair?ref=ts&fref=ts
  2. I haven't yet, either and I heard in April. Apparently some should be sent out tomorrow. I'm more worried about financial aid at this point. Haven't heard a peep. I can't believe it's taken UCLA five months to get back to me...
  3. I went to the Admit day at UCLA today. Couple of thoughts: If you haven't heard about admission, you're still okay. They are going really slowly on these applications. They claim that the order you are admitted has no bearing on your qualifications or how favorable you are as a candidate (but I doubt it because the Department had a deadline to submit for Fellowships.)If you haven't been notified about receiving a scholarship, you didn't get one. Everyone who got one has been notified. The department has yet to notify the losers. In the coming weeks, the admissions officer will be sending out additional information on financial aid opportunities. These include those stipends where you have to promise to work for governmental agencies afterwards. They didn't sound very promising unless you were interested in child welfare. Information about financial aid seemed very nebulous. =/ It looks like UCLA has been trying to be more warm fuzzy recently (big glamorous welcome weekends, butt kissing to proud parents of undergrads) to help mitigate angry reactions when the tuition inevitably goes up.
  4. Has anyone received a financial aid package from UCLA yet? I haven't heard a peep and I'm a little worried because they want us to commit by Friday...
  5. I was also an undergrad Bruin (so I chuckled when the email said "we hope you will soon become a Bruin...") but I may go anyway. I'm hoping to meet some professors and particularly the field placement person at the Department. More to scope out the other admits and the future second-years than anything else.
  6. thestarsarealigned, I just heard back from UCLA a few minutes ago via email and thought I should post here to let you know. It was an acceptance (no word of fellowship) with the request that I notify the school of my decision to attend no later than April 15th, in a week. For anyone out there who is still waiting to hear from UCLA, don't rule out admission...
  7. How did you hear about your application being in review? Did they send an email informing you that it is in review? This is truly nailbiting. UCLA is the only school I applied to this year (made sense logistically.) I guess I thought I was a shoo in. I have lived experience as a person with a mental illness and my resume includes policy work for SAMHSA, the State Department of Mental Health, and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.
  8. I'm still waiting to hear from UCLA, too. I turned in my application on December 1st, weeks in advance of the deadline. Since then, I haven't heard anything. This week I started making calls (no pick ups at the Department, just voicemail) and email but no response. The website doesn't show me anything, either. I'm kind of disappointed that I've heard nothing either way, given how expensive the fee ways. What worries me is that according to their website, Social Welfare New Admit Welcome Day is next Tuesday, April 12th. If that's the case, then I'm losing hope. According to the Department calendar, the MSW Admissions Committee is meeting again on April 11th. I have no idea what that means, though. It appears to be the last day the Committee will meet this year. Perhaps it is to rank and finalize the waitlist.
