  1. How much (more or less) is a stipend for a doctoral student per year since I received an offer and wanted to compare it with the average. Thanks
  2. I have received a letter saying that I was admitted to a program but that there was no funding available, what should I do if I cannot attend without funding? How to tell the program
  3. A school tells me that they cannot accept me for a program but tells me to consider to apply to other programs or degrees. I think I need to talk to the admission representative and ask him what program do they recommend since I would like to go to that school. What do you think?
  4. I have received an admission. It has some conditions on the funding though. It says your fellowship will continue into your second year only if your cumulative grade point average is at least 3.25. What would happen if I donĀ“t get 3.25 which the letter does not say. I am still waiting on two other schools to tell me. Any advice and what could be the reason for offering admission this way or is it common.
  5. I have not received an email notificating if I was admitted. However, I have received an email saying I could log into their system and the help desk provided a code to enter. When I logged on I was able to see that an email was activated, access to library and computer programs and a menu to enroll in classes. Does this mean I was admitted?
  6. My interview lasted for about 6 minutes. The consular official asked me to tell her about my program, and she also asked me to show her the letter that said that the university will pay for tuition and fees. After that, she said that my visa has been aproved! and good luck with your program she said.
  7. I called today to the international office and they said that they have sent my I-20 to my department already. So it should be easier to get it from them. I was in panic because i couldn't find the person in charge in the international office for 1 month , I just found her today! It is a good idea to call the embassy to know how long should I wait for an appointment, but I don't think it will take long since not a whole lot of people from my country go to US to study. Besides, I heard that even if I have the visa issued I won't be able to get in the country before than 30 days prior to the first class.
  8. Hi I have received my admission letter by the end of April, the Department told me that the International Office would follow up with me shortly, but it has been a month already, and they say that only one person is in charge of issuing I-20s and she is never at her desk, or she took May for vacation and the colleagues are covering. I don't know what is really going on. But I am worried, how long does it take to issue an I-20, is it just negligence or does it take that much long? I'm worried I could miss classes or not get there in time. Should I insist calling or does it affect my admission?
  9. Does anyone know how much is an average stipend for PhD in economics for first year?
  10. I have been on the waiting list since the beginnin of April, and I was told that I would be notified of admission by the end of April. I have not gotten a response yet. Is it normal or common to be notified of admission in May?
  11. I have a graduate degree already (M.A. in Economics) and applied to Ph.D. programs, so far all rejections, except for one school that says I am on the waiting list, and said they would inform me by the end of April. So, I would be disappointed for all the time that it took me to prepare for the GRE and get the trasncripts since I studied abroad, and ask professors for recommendations. I would feel like too much time and money wasted. I can always do other things, continue with what I was doing before applying.
  12. The deadlines of the other programs were January 2, and January 15. They do have websites with my application, and all the supporting materials were received, but so far there has been no change in the status. I may need to send them an e-mail.
  13. I have applied to Ph.D. in Economics. I have received a letter from a school that says "the committee was impressed with your application. You have been placed on the waiting list for Fall 2011.......We anticipate notifying you of our admission decision by the end of April" What does this letter mean, so I understand they were impressed although I wasn't their first option? Why would they let me know this? To keep me waiting and not commit to other school? I have two other schools I haven't heard anything about, should I ask them of my application status, what should I say in the letter?
