  1. I've heard conflicting messages. A POI told me that, in the past, interviews were not mandatory for admission. Saw a note from a current applicant that his/her POI indicated that all finalists were going to be interviewed. I don't think there's any more recent news than that. Personally, I'll assume that the latest information (the current applicant) is closer to the truth.
  2. Bottom of the main page? The actual app? The message center?
  3. My fingers are crossed, too. Good luck!
  4. Safe but good in IR? University of North Texas. I know people thee pm if interested.
  5. I agree with Tallow, though. I'm getting the impression that rejections were sent out at 11:00. No news, at this point, probably means you're a finalist, if not admitted. One of my letter writers spoke with me yesterday about the first-cut strategy, saying that sometimes programs hack off the bottom 90 percent and send out letters, then pour over the remaining apps to decide whom to admit/waitlist/reject from the narrowed pool. Something tells me I, and my compatriots in this morning's bloodbath, were rejected in the first-cut. That you weren't is bound to be a good sign.
  6. Nothing on the Wolverine page changed. I hope that, if you weren't rejected, it means you'll be getting accepted. Fingers crossed!
  7. I assume it means that no decision has been posted. I hate those e-mails; makes my heart jump every time I see one. As far as results, just mouse-over the red dots.
  8. Meh, Michigan is awesome, but it's also a very tough place to be, from what I hear. I'm not sure I want to spend five years fighting other top students for faculty attention. But yes, would have been nice to have the option. When do you expect to hear from Columbia?
  9. Those are real. And the letters were good. SoP might have been weak. But really it comes down to a <5% acceptance rate. Was hesitant about UM anyway, applied b/c it's what you "do" in political science. Stings, but moving along... edit: Congrats to anyone who eventually gets in. I hear Ann Arbor is a great town!
  10. Yea, I've thought of it as maybe being similar to the primary system in presidential elections... increasing pressure to frontload. You want to snatch up your candidates as soon as possible. (And that makes sense, given that you may end up feeling more warmly predisposed to the first school to admit you. Or at least more likely to commit to a visit if it's the first offer you have, even if it's not your top pick.) So as your peer programs start admitting earlier, you feel the need to match or beat them at the game. That, or programs are becoming more compassionate and are trying to ease our anxiety. But I jest... edit: Congrats, btw, on the great news yesterday!
  11. Is it just me or does Chapel Hill seem kind of random? Not to doubt the poster... but it seems out of place.
  12. Decisions didn't start popping up til late afternoon yesterday. Maybe the same happens today?
  13. Anyone want to claim the other two WUSTL posts on the results?
  14. By the way, WUSTL letters dropping by e-mail now. Screw pessimism. Mood much higher now.
  15. Technically, inclined to agree, seeing as I grew up rooting for (the single best) SEC team in history. (Best basketball program in history, really...)
  16. haha Thanks. It's easy to get caught up in the anxiety that you overlook how lucky you are. </funk>
  17. Well, we all want the maximum number of options. If Duke and Vanderbilt are "no", that makes me think Wisconsin was more a fluke. In that case, the other top-15 programs I applied to look more like "probable no" today than they did a couple days ago. Can't win them all -- we all recognize that. Still doesn't stop the rejections from stinging.
  18. It's incredible how quickly optimism can decay into a gnawing, gnashing pessimism.
  19. ^ Hang in there; this ain't over yet.
  20. So I may have been wrong about Vandy. New post says all possible admits get interviewed. Person I had spoken with said not to worry about it, but s/he isn't on the committee. So if the poster is correct, Vandy will be a no. Eff.
  21. Just curious, what would time tell you? (I'm looking for a reason to have hope...) Addendum: Also, any Madison acceptees seen a change in the online status? Mine still says "recommended by department" but hasn't switched officially to "admitted". Normal?
  22. Good from the angle of holding on to hope, bad because of the agony and (likely) second letdown when it turns out I actually was rejected. Kind of like a bandaid... just rip if off. Sigh.
