  1. @daykid me too *fingers crossed*
  2. Update: I was just notified that I've moved from alternate to principal status.
  3. Did anyone here happen to have applied for the May 1 deadline? Or does anyone know if there is a separate thread for the people who submitted apps for the May 1, 2017 deadline? Just trying to keep tabs on when to expect they send the final round of notification.s
  4. @EndoftheLine honestly I haven't learned much. Mostly that if I don't hear anything, it's likely a no. And it sounds like, while the official date is October 10, we'll probably be notified about the status of the app by the end of the month. I have no idea about rank and alternate status, or if DoE even makes that available to campus coordinators. Where is your work based?
  5. Unfortunately, I think so. I was just speaking to my campus coordinator about what to expect as an alternate, and it sounds like the case with Fulbright is that no answer is a no. =(
  6. I received a personal email from my university coordinator yesterday (UC Berkeley). For better or worse, I'm one of the folks who is in limbo as an alternate. My area is Sociocultural Anthropology and Science & Technology Studies, and my field site is Cameroon.
  7. I completely agree with what everyone has said. You can maybe have a personal back-up list (i.e. you can rank the programs you apply to based on professors you would most like to work with, resources, geographic location, etc.). But there is no general "safety" school, which is a major difference in the approach to graduate admissions in comparison to undergraduate admissions. And in all honesty, my "safety" school was the program that actually rejected me.
  8. You're right. I think the problem is that I'm a perfectionist, which heightens the "buyer's remorse."
  9. Hi everyone, So we're finally in the post April 15th decision deadline. I made my decision a week before but now, after reading a few articles yesterday, I'm worried that I made a mistake. Is that normal?
  10. It means you got it. The same thing happened to me. Congrats!
  11. This is killing me. I want to know...but then I don't. I wish I hadn't found this thread, but it's also a bit cathartic to know there are other anxious people in the world.
