Siiigh, this probably does not warrant a response, but, I'm sorry that you had such a poor University experience that you found professors gave no added value over text books. All I was trying to say is that no school is going to be perfect all the time, and during all of those less-than perfect times (including outside the classroom), the original poster might not want to be beating herself up about all that debt for something that is not always going to be wonderful.
yeah it sucks but at real schools they hire professors for research and not teaching ability (although i'd love to hang out with your dope liberal arts faculty some day)

is it just coincidence or did you intentionally choose the two most racist states in the uSA?

Yep, I am still divided between these two schools. Koonin is good; but, I think he spends a lot of time in Bethesda. I was thinking that I may want to work with Bodorovsky or some other professors there. I am not sure which of these two schools are good for job prospects though. BU graduates are seem to be well-paced (good postdocs). Any thoughts? How do you actually get a good postdoc: name recognition or supervisors' connection? Of course, your publications are what they are looking at.
i'd still go with BU. borodovsky is alright but he's kind of old school . there's better comp bio out there (and tons of good research at BU) . plus like i said you can just work at the broad

I'm in a great position in that I got a scholarship for HKS, but before I knew that HKS was going to be financially viable, I wasn't even considering going. There are connections to be made anywhere, and you are right that with an MPP degree, it will take a loooong time to pay off the debt. If you go into all that debt, think about how annoyed you will be every time you have a mediocre professor (which I am sure there are at HKS just like everywhere else) or when you have to miss out on an event.
dude have you ever been to university?you don't pay for the coursework, you pay for everything else
otherwise you'd just buy a textbook and read it

If your partner will help you financially while attending grad school, you should go UCLA. Living on stipend alone can be difficult so having a partner to help you out is really great and reduces some of the financial burden in future.
berkeley stipend is like 30k, how is that difficult to live on? if you're considering leaving your significant other then the relationship's not worth saving (uh oh shouldn't have said that hahaha) Anyway i guess you'll enjoy UCLA

How humble...
haha (and to the original poster just choose ksg and stop worrying about personal attacks on an online forum)

Imperial has a better reputation internationally AND in the USA . But really you are ignoring an important factor, which is the programs are very very different
Personally, I'd go for Imperial. It will give you the chance to live in Europe for a few years, which is fun. UCSD is a really nice campus though

Berkeley no question (but learn to spell it). this is a no-brainer. berkeley is a top tier graduate program. UCLA, while good, is definitely a notch below berkeley. Also, berkeley culture is more fun, grad student life is good, and you aren't stuck in los angeles...

Media Lab no question. you can take MIT graduate CS cousework . more importantly, you can get letters of recommendation from MIT course 6 collaborators
but once you go to the Media Lab, I can't imagine you wanting to leave for a ph.d. program somewhere else. the media lab is just dope

Berkeley has Lior Pachter who might be a good fit for your interests. At this stage, I would carefully consider the faculty at each school. Berkeley is top ranked in mathematics and biology so you can't go wrong. And like you said, UCSF is more medically oriented... It's a tough decision, but i would go with Berkeley (personal preference) and certainly don't let the fellowship influence your decision
Edit: Also Lior Pachter 's da bomb so if you're interested in his lab, i highly highly highly recommend going to Berkeley

I would go to BU. Who are you interested in at GA tech? Koonin is good but he's inaccessible to most grad students (and you wouldn't want to work in his lab anyway)
Otherwise BU has a good program and it's across from MIT/Havard so you can go to research talks every week. Also some BU professors are affiliated with the Broad

Go to UArizona. They have a top 10 ecology department where you can do top quality research
Also Tucson is a good city. i think it is much nicer than Columbia
The best way to describe Tucson is everyone has a fixed gear bike (for better or worse) haha

I think school B (Stanford?) is a good choice
Going to any school to work with 1 or 2 professors is very risky. Also, there are tons of benefits to going to a school that is top ranked in every field.

Hi, Harvard alum here. Choosing Sanford over KSG is a big mistake. Even from a purely financial standpoint, KSG is the better long-term option (no contest). But when you also think of the name recognition and professional network at KSG, Sanford is a comparatively poor choice. There is no professional network more influential and important than Harvard's, and while Sanford might be close to KSG in the rankings, it is really a 2nd tier school in comparison. There is not a single person who would choose Sanford over KSG from a purely professional standpoint.
Of course, KSG is kind of a self-selecting environment. If you end up choosing Sanford, you probably aren't the kind of person who would leverage Harvard's resources anyway (and then, you really are better at Sanford). In any case, hate to say it but the decision is obvious. Listen to the people you respect and go to the best school in the nation. Equivocating because of a few years' tuition shows a lack of perspective.
