  1. Hey GCeramics, Don't be bummed those are two great schools! I'll be honest, I applied to a few schools last year so this was my second time around and this past year was a much needed year in my studio. Granted I worked in my studio like a full time job (certainly as much or more than I would have if I had taken some of the schools up on their post-bac offers). If you aren't happy with your options and you can afford to wait another year what's the harm? Chances are you'll have a stronger portfolio and another year to mature. On the other hand if you're set on going this year, I'd visit both schools and try and get a sense of what the current grad students are like and whether or not they seem to fit in with your work rate/personality/portfolio, and push for as much financial credit as you can and get. Best of luck to you!
  2. To all, thanks for the feedback and support through this roller coaster ride. This forum has been such a valuable resource.... I'm going to Tyler! Couldn't be happier!! Best of luck to everyone!!
  3. Congrats! Very exciting! I was just there earlier in the week and it's a wonderful place. Facilities are spectacular and the faculty accessible. I'll prob be seeing you next year. Enjoy the weekend, I know I will, there's a huge wait off my shoulders now as I'm sure there is for you too! Cheers!
  4. Just found out I was accepted to Tyler! Very excited about this. So now it's down to Tyler or Cranbrook and I have to decide this weekend. Any thoughts? Congrats to all the good news out there!
  5. Really could use some thoughts/advice on which program to attend cafe friends. SVA (Fine Art) or Cranbrook (Painting). I know I'll have more studio time at Cranbrook, and probably work closer with the artist in residence and classmates there than any of the big wig profs at SVA, but SVA is in New York, and therefore any connections I did make would ultimately be city connections... Eventually I would like to be in New York (as would most of us I assume) however, I'm not sure that that should influence my choice as I'm going to one or the other for the 2yr program and New York isn't going anywhere. I still haven't heard back from VCU or Tyler (finalist) but I have to let Cranbrook know by april 2nd..... aghh What should I do...!? p.s. Ultimately I feel fortunate to be faced with this dilemma, but having a really difficult time coming up with a firm decision, apologies if this comes off as conceited...
  6. Congratulations! You may see me, I'm trying to decide between School of Visual Arts (fine art) and Cranbrook (painting). Two very different programs.....I'm visiting SVA tomorrow so that may help me come to a decision. If anyone has any thoughts on those two schools by all means I'd love to hear them.
  7. I appreciate those thoughts and they don't surprise me... Of course I'm still going to visit next week. Cheers to all!
  8. Anyone have any thoughts on the SVA mfa in Fine Arts program? much appreciated and happy sunday
  9. I was too and crushing is a good way to put it... In the long run though I think it helped fuel my studio practice this past year. All in the past... Enjoy the weekend y'all!
  10. Wonderful news! Congratulations Noceh4! Ditto, I suppose that's Rutgers way of softening the blow and talking me off this bridge... awkward
  11. Hey congrats on your SAIC interview! I'm going out for my interview with Cranbrook next week also. I'm really looking forward to seeing the campus and meeting everyone. I've never been so feel free to let me know anything about the area. I see you are from Michigan which is why I ask... Best of luck with the rest of your process!
  12. Thank you, I was going to respond to that post as you did. I've also had and known a number of tenured professors who went to Cranbrook for either their undergrad or graduate degrees. Most universities are concerned with your "research" record more than the breadth of your teaching experience.
  13. You can throw my name into the Hunter reject bucket... Here's to a good weekend and better news next week for everyone!
