  1. Thanks Sam. I applied to Georgia Tech's Electrical Engineering department with an emphasis on VLSI and FPGA. I've been accepted to 4 other colleges, but Georgia Tech was my number one choice. I sent an email to the ECE department two days ago, but I haven't heard anything. I thought about emailing the professor I wanted to work with, but I have not communicated with him before, other than meeting him at a lecture he gave. I realize that I should have networked better now. Anyway, I suppose my chances are pretty bleak at this point.
  2. hoping- I agree there doesn't seem to be much action on the Georgia Tech accepts. Being of the Engineering slant I looked at the numbers, since I tend to over analyze things like this. In the last month there have been 11 posts for Georgia Tech acceptances/rejections on the results thread. Here is the breakdown: 8 PhD Candidates rejected by both email and website 2/26, 3/13, 3/14, 3/16, 3/28, and 4/1 1 MS Candidate rejected by website 4/2 2 PhD Candidates accepted by email 3/14 and 4/1 This late in the game, with so few acceptances posted, it seems there still must be a lot of acceptances out there. At least we can hope!!
  3. Still waiting on MS ECE Georgia Tech, UC Santa Barbara, and Florida.
  4. Salvador Limones wrote: "Mass email to ECE applicants from Georgia Tech: "We are in the process of sending out decisions electronically and will be finished by April 10". Still no decision..." Did you all already receive this email? I haven't gotten it yet. What do you think this means? Have I fallen through a crack?? Should I be worried??? I'm usually not this neurotic...really!
  5. Thanks for your insights. Maybe I should contact a professor within the specialty that I would like to research.
  6. Thanks for the reply. I would really like to do research during my masters, but I probably won't be going for a PhD., since I don't plan to teach or do pure research as a career. So maybe this is a good solution for me.
  7. Accidentally posted this on the main Applied Sciences & Mathematics thread. Sorry for the redundancy! I applied to Cornell for their PhD program in Electrical Engineering, since I received an email early on saying that ECE majors could not apply for an MS degree, only PhD or MEng. Today I received an email stating that they didn't have room for me in their PhD progam, but I was offered a spot in their MEng program. I have heard that a lot of Ivies only use Masters degrees as booby prizes to students who don't qualify, or can't hack the PhD program. Is this true? Would a Masters from Cornell be looked down upon in the working world? Also, I understand that the MEng is more coursework and less research. I have done a lot of research in my undergraduate work, so I would prefer a more research based Master's program. I'd like everyones' impression of the MEng degree at Cornell. Thanks!

  9. I still haven't heard from Georgia Tech, UC Santa Barbara, or Cornell. I was looking at the status page on Georgia Tech's website and it says "Decisions on Completed Applications May 31." Does this mean that they can notify you as late as May 31? Georgia Tech was one of my top choices, but I have already been accepted to a couple of other colleges that want to know my decision by April 15th. This creates a real problem for me. Do you think it would be okay to contact the department I'm applying to and explain my dilemma to see if they can give me my decision earlier?
  10. I suspect that the U of T that Canada_ECE_Master is referring to is the University of Toronto, not the University of Texas-Austin, since they also applied to two other Canadian schools, UBC (University of British Columbia) and McGill. I am still waiting on the University of Texas, and as far as I know, they did not extend their application deadline. Correct me if I'm wrong.
  11. I have applied to 9 Masters Programs in Electrical Engineering, and thus far I have only heard from 2. Do any of you know whether the PhD spots are filled first and then the remaining spots go to MS candidates? Also, if we haven't been accepted or rejected yet, does that mean that we are considered 2nd tier candidates and still in contention? I would appreciate your insights. The wait is killing me! Applied to: MIT - rejected Cal Tech - waiting Georgia Tech - waiting Stanford - waiting Penn State - waiting Washington - accepted Florida - waiting Texas - waiting Michigan - waiting
