  1. Which direction is the "lower half"?

    MIT

No, the lease is for a full year (up through August). Why no love for Sid-Pac? I think it's at least the equal to Ashdown.
  3. Ericrusso: BS to PhD typically takes on average 5-6 years, and MIT funds all of their graduate students at a standard rate (PhD-seeking ones, at least. Not sure about MS only students). In fact, most PhD programs (in engineering, at least) will fund their students (cover their tuition and pay a stipend) so no financial aid is needed nor required. Sometimes the acceptance letter will also include an offer for special funding such as scholarships and fellowships, so you should find out your funding situation when you get your acceptance letter.
  4. Don't listen to ktel. You can get into the PhD program without an MS. I did. They'll consider you an MS student up until you pass quals, but they'll expect you to do things as though you were preparing for a PhD, i.e. join a lab doing PhD level research.
  5. Rejected. On the bright side, I'm guaranteed a pretty good stipend by my grad school as is.
  6. Sigh. Now my peaceful Saturday has been thrown into turmoil.
  7. Nope. It's K. I was the one interested in course 3. Any idea how many Duke grads got in?
  8. It's very possible. Were you one of the ones a certain heat transfer professor recommend interested seniors to contact?
  9. Even closer than ninth street, there's a Wachovia right inside the Duke Hospital which you can walk into right off of the main academic quad. I have Verizon, and I think it works best here. I get signal everywhere but in the Engineering buildings while my friend's Sprint phone has trouble getting and maintaining a signal.
  10. What about the Warehouse? No one seems to talk much about it. Jendoly, you live in a studio, right? Is what's left of your stipend enough to live reasonably comfortably or does the extra $200 a month in rent hurt? I know first year housing is guaranteed at MIT, but do you know the odds of getting on campus housing beyond that? Are studios more or less in demand than the other types of housing?
