  1. Don't frown at your scores, those were good enough to get you an interview at CSULA, which I hear is not an easy thing to do. My GRE scores are almost exactly the same as yours, and my first undergrad GPA is below a 3.0! I'm in my last semester of a 2nd bachelors in CSD though, and I have a 4.0 in those classes so hopefully that will save my butt. I don't speak another language either, so you have a lot going for you!!! Good luck and stay positive
  2. http://www.cbest.nesinc.com/CA18_requirements.asp it's a requirement to work in the school system in California
  3. I received an e-mail that I was missing the Basic Skills Test, but no where on the website does it say that it is mandatory. I told the person who e-mailed me that I will take the exam if I am admitted because I can't afford to spend that kind of money on something I don't need. I want to do medical SLP, so the basic skills test serves no purpose for me at all :/
  4. I applied to SDSU, SFSU, and CSULB... I'm out-of-state (although I was born & raised in CA) so I don't really know what my chances are, but its worth a shot Good luck to you as well!
  5. Its a very competitive program as well, but I think FSU is a little tougher. I'm in my last semester of a 2nd bachelors in CSD in USF's online program... I don't know if that will help my chances either, but I sure hope so! Good luck to you too, maybe we'll end up as classmates!
  6. It's one of the more competitive schools in FL, but not as much as UF or FIU from what I've heard. I think in FL, UF is the toughest to get into, FAU is the easiest, but then again... getting into ANY grad program in SLP is hard these days! I'm not sure what FSU is looking for or how many students they accept, but since its such a large school I imagine they must take more students in than a smaller school like FAU. I got rejected from both schools last year, so here's hoping for the best!!
  7. I applied to FSU as well, I went to undergrad there, but I doubt that will help my chances! I received the e-mail as well, a second e-mail went out correcting the date of notification to Monday, March 11th at 5. Good luck everyone! No matter what happens, don't give up. This is year #2 of applying for me, and I still may not get in anywhere!
  8. I was nervous too, but I did my best so all I can do now is wait! I'm actually not interested in a bilingual program because I only speak English, but I do like that they have a multicultural emphasis program, and I would love to improve my spanish skills in grad school. Thank you! Good luck with yours as well!
  9. How was your interview with UNM? I had a phone interview with them as well. I hope thats a good sign! Congrats on your acceptance to Marquette, great school
  10. Hahaha, exactly!!! I was like... seriously? I have to write an essay about THIS?! lol.
  11. Hi Travelnguy, I applied to ENMU as well. How did you answer that weird essay question about being stranded on an island with a carpenter, doctor, priest, etc... I have no clue how they're going to score that haha.
  12. I just had a phone interview, and the questions they asked completely threw me off! I had a whole list of questions and answers prepared, and I basically had to just wing it. My head is still reeling, but I think they asked: what types of multicultural experiences I've had, what classes I'm currently taking (if any), how would I handle the rigors of having clinic and classwork, do I have clinical practicum experience, will I have 25 hours of observation by the fall, what population am I most interested in working with, something about how I would do therapy as a beginner clinician (this one is fuzzy in my brain), and why am I interested in this field. It all happened so fast! I just hope I didn't sound like a complete moron. They did tell me that they are conducting interviews BEFORE looking at my file, so I'm not sure what that means, but I hope I have a fighting chance of getting in. I don't think I did poorly, I just really don't know what I'm up against, and I hope I actually answered the questions they asked (some were like 3 part questions!). I feel like an in-person interview would have been a little bit easier honestly. Good luck everyone! Pray for me, lol.
  13. I'm anxiously waiting as well! I have a phone interview with University of New Mexico (UNM) on Thursday! I'm so glad to see a glimmer of hope. Second year applying (this time to 11 schools instead of 2...). 2.9 Undergrad GPA; 4.0 2nd Bachelors in CSD at USF; 156V 144Q 4.5AW. Work experience as a SLP-A at a speech office, front desk at an audiology office, and now at a Parkinson's Disease center. I'm staying hopeful! Good luck everyone
  14. I'll be 30 this year and I'm waiting to hear back from programs I applied to this year. I think schools are excited to have older students because they know the maturity level and dedication will be there!
  15. I think you'll be ok Devon. If I were you, I'd take the GRE one more time just to show that you really tried, and they can't fault you for being a bad test taker. This tests are crazy anyway. Try studying the ETS book, I used that and did ok. Honestly I didn't study for the math part, because most schools want to see high verbal & writing skills, at least in this field. You're GPAs are great, I wish I could say the same for myself!
  16. What is it about the field that is unsatisfying for you? This is the first I've heard of anyone saying anything negative about the field, so I'm a little surprised. Can you elaborate on what you mean exactly, i'm just curious!
  17. This is very helpful, thanks! I'm definitely interested in a medical SLP program and was looking for a list like this.
  18. Thats actually a really good idea, I'll definitely look into that! Maybe its just FAU that wont consider my other GPA's. I just think its crazy b/c FAU is where I'm getting my prereqs from so you'd think they'd weigh theyre own classes heavily. I'm definitely going to apply to other programs and hope they take all of my education into account! The worst that could happen is I get rejected and then end up getting the BA online anyway. Thanks for the advice!!
  19. Oh wow, I didn't know that. Unfortunately, I went to high school in FL!
  20. I'm in south FL now, i'm pretty bound here at the moment. I really don't want another bachelors to be honest, but my undergrad gpa of 2.8 is what all the grad schools will be looking at unless I get a second bachelors or a masters. I wish they'd look at my SLP classes alone, but it doesnt seem to be the way they do things. I am paying for my classes out of pocket... I need a sugar daddy or something to help me out haha.
  21. Ok, so I've been taking my SLP pre-reqs at FAU for the past year now, I've taken 5 so far (gotten straight A's) and I'm taking the last 2 right now. I have an undergrad degree in psych from FSU, and my upper level gpa is like a 2.8 (bleh). I also got an AS degree in radiologic technology (x-ray school) after my bachelors, and had a 3.4 gpa. So now that I'm trying to apply to grad school I'm seeing that my undergrad gpa sucks pretty bad in regards to getting in somewhere, my x-ray school gpa doesn't matter in the slightest, and the school i'm taking my pre-reqs at doesn't offer an undergrad degree in SLP so these credits are kind of useless if I don't get into grad school. My options at this point seem to be to: 1. get a second bachelors degree in interdisciplinary studies so that i can use the SLP credits towards a second bachelors degree (in which i'll have a much more competitive gpa, but will have to take 21 credits of other stuff I dont really care about) OR 2. enroll in the online second bachelors degree in SLP program at USF and re-take all the classes I've already taken and got A's in (aside from 2 that they'll transfer). The BA in interdisciplinary studies would take me 2 more semesters to finish, the SLP 2nd bachelors would start next summer and take me 3 semesters to finish. It seems like it would be a good idea to have a bachelors in communication disorders as opposed to a random one, but it seems like grad schools just care more about numbers (gpa & gre scores). I'm just really confused about this, and would appreciate any feedback whatsoever!!!
  22. Yeah you're probably right about that. My dad lives in San Clemente, but I live in Florida so I wouldn't qualify for in-state tuition. I'm starting to re-think my choices!
  23. I went to Florida State for undergrad, I loved it there. I wouldn't mind going back! I was thinking of applying to Valdosta state in GA, but they require an undergrad degree in CSD according to the website. I'm almost done with 21 credits of CSD prerequisite courses at Florida Atlantic Univ., but my undergrad major is in psych. I wonder if they'd consider me? Good luck with your apps!
  24. I'd love to go back to CA, but the programs there seem pretty tough to get into. Do you know anything about Chico State's program? I was giving it some thought.
