  1. Anybody know if additional funding is ever freed up at the Elliott School once the enrollment deadline passes? I know people in some of the other GW graduate programs have received more funding around May, but I'm curious if that's the case at Elliott.
  2. Today's the day, according to SSP's twitter page!
  3. JFactor, If you can, I would try to attend one of the classes in the International Economics field. I attended a US Foreign Policy class at SIS before I submitted all my applications, and I found that the students were very honest and told me a lot of benefits and drawbacks of the program. One thing to consider is that SAIS discourages students from interning/working, and all of American's courses are in the evening, so that you can get experience in the field. I think that is a major advantage, especially if your education is fully paid for. You can have the option of interning or being a fellow at some pretty cool organizations. SIS is just a few metro stops away on the red line to organizations like the World Bank, if that's what you're interested in. If I were in your position, I would have a very hard time turning down a fully funded master's degree program to take on major debt. Contact the department and see if they can put you in touch with some current students, which I am sure they would be happy to do.
  4. I'm still waiting. Last year they were out by now. I think I'm priced out of Georgetown, but I'd still like an answer.
  5. Hey I applied for the Wolcott Fellowship as well, through the Elliott School. On the fellowship website it says decisions wil be released early April. Time has been moving so slowly this past month..
  6. I didn't receive any funding from SIS or SAIS. I was a little surprised not to get funding from SIS, but I did get $20k from Elliott, so I think that makes my decision pretty easy. I will still be attending all the receptions for all the schools though, because I'm not one to pass up a free meal! Anybody else going to those?
  7. Did anyone get specific mention on funding? My letter said students who have submitted financial aid information will be given financial aid information in a week, but I am wondering if anyone heard anything differently? Specifically on merit aid and the three essays for funding..
  8. John Hopkins SAIS admits are out. I was accepted to the Latin American Studies program! I thought it would be a reach, but a very nice surprise.
  9. The Elliott School has admissions decisions available! I'm in to the Latin American & Hemispheric Studies program, no word on funding yet.
  10. I'm in at SIS too (United States Foreign Policy)! When I click on the funding information it goes to an undeliverable page.. Hopefully there will be information in the acceptance package.
  11. You should try your best to take the classes prior to matriculation. All other applicants to these schools probably have the same stats as you, and have taken the prerequisite econ classes. I'd look at your local community college classes and see if you can take them online, if you don't have time to take them in person. If you think your previous classes should meet the requirement for micro/macro, then email the syllabi from the classes to the admissions office to see if they will waive the requirement for you. The onus is on you to take these classes if you want to get into these graduate schools. A basic economics background is fairly important in security studies programs.
  12. Hey, just wanted to add my two cents, because I faced a similar situation last year. I applied for the Boren scholarship for Russian. I didn't have any previous Russian language experience, however I'm fluent in Spanish and I had two very strong LORs, one from a language instructor and one from an IR professor. I figured that I would have a pretty good chance because of my academic background and strong essays, but I think not having the Russian language background really hurt my chances. If I were you, I would take the time now to try and familiarize yourself with the language, whether through taking a beginning class, checking out some Arabic language books, joining some sort of club with Arabic language speakers, anything that shows that you are really committing yourself to the language. Also start your application now and have anyone you can read your essays. I hope this helps you!
