In regards to the peace corps discussion and trips back home to the US. PC provides comprehensive health care coverage that in most circumstances you can request to have it treated in the US on PC's dime. So if you get home sick and funds are low just break your arm or try to contract hepatitis.

I guess it did seem like everyone wanted to be an FSO. I only put it as my choice because I thought it would make my application more competitive. Besides, I don't think they give out boren awards to guys who want to fly helicopters for the military. Maybe that was a bad judgment call.

What did everyone put as there intended job for the service requirement?

Again, more speculation, but: I told my campus boren representative that I didn't receive the "financial update email" and I asked if it was reasonable to assume that I have not been selected. Her response was "I think you should prepare yourself for that outcome." And then the usual boilerplate "nothing is final until it's final", etc. However in deference to jg33, I would think that a Fulbright finalist in an engineering grad program at UT-Austin would have made it past regionals based exclusively on the fact that they study engineering at Texas. Anyway, I think I sent an email, but my info for the s/s: Country: Ukraine; Language: Russian/Ukrainian; Research area: Chem Eng/Alternative Energy and obviously: no email from iie.

To elementwil, Are you saying that your advisor served on the selection comittee? Where is all this knowledge of the selection process coming from? I've emailed boren and they don't give much information beyond when the estimated award notifications will be sent. Could you please expand?

I have to agree with elementwil, which sucks because I haven't received any emails. But the vague response on facebook seems to indicate that the emails are important. If the emails didn't matter they would explicitly state that it wasn't an indicator. Oh well, I hope in the rejection letter they provide feedback on why my proposal wasn't funded, but I doubt it.
