  1. Um, I suppose I could be. I think the more likely story is that this guy just used some weird soap in the shower or some weird detergent to wash his clothes.
  2. Haha, fine, no one answer my awesome question. I just thought I would lighten the mood a bit. In all honesty, I DID meet a guy the other day that smelled really funky, but his research was not what I was looking for.
  3. Hi, I figured this is the place to ask about deciding on avisors. Should I rule an advisor out based on smell? I met a guy yesterday who did some interesting research but smelled really weird. Thanks

    Prof. Salary

Yeah, wealthy middle-class districts in like CA or NY or something, not in the midwest, that is for sure. Maybe like in Lake Forest, IL or something. I know none of the teachers at my school made that kind of money, or most if not all of the schools in my district when I was in high school.
  5. I haven't heard a peep from them since applying. It has surprised me considering that was my "fall back" school.
  6. You know, did you consider that it could be that rare species of zombie, zombus comedium, chronicled in "Shaun of the Dead" or did you overlook that possibility? If that is the case, you might consider inviting them in for tea. I believe zombies from that area of the world like to take their tea in the mid-afternoon around 2-ish.
  7. FWIW, Neil Armstrong was a Boilermaker and an Illini invented the first plasma display among many many many many many other things from many many many many many other schools.
  8. Yeah, hasn't he had problems with similar crime-fighting squads in the past? However, if it is, in fact, zombies, it depends on what kind of zombies they are. If they are the new school kind, as seen in the documentary "I Am Legend" then the dogs are just as at-risk, and are much more adept at stair-climbing.
  9. Nice. Almost applied there. Austin is an amazing city. Unfortunately they don't do a whole lot within thermal fluid sciences, so I opted not to apply there.
  10. You should probably saw a hole in your floor and fashion a periscope out of a video camera and a rod of some sort so that you can look around and see what the deal is. In fact, I think you would be remiss not to take this approach. Otherwise, how else will you know if it is zombies, fiends, or Ol' Mr. McKnight?
  11. Ok, now I want to preface this post with a statement that in no way is this a case of me asking for people to make up my mind for me. You can take your guesses as to which two schools in my sig I am talking about, but I don't plan on saying which is which. School A: Admitted without guaranteed funding. Visited recently and hit it off pretty well with one of the professors, whose research group is absolutely perfect for me in almost every way as far as my interests go. However, this professor said that he probably wouldn't know if he could offer me funding of any kind for at least 4 or 5 more weeks for one reason or another (not sure if he was waiting on funding or waiting on seeing who else was interested to weigh his own options). School B: Admitted with full funding guaranteed. Visited recently and made a good connection with 3 or so professors, all with interesting research groups, but, while very interesting, none are quite perfect. They all are places I feel I could find a niche and get some very interesting work done, but none quite as perfect of a fit as the one professor at School A. My question is, is there any way that I can try to talk to the professor at school A again and see if I can get a more definitive answer on funding? I don't exactly have a lot of spare change, and it would be awfully hard to pass up a fully funded offer for one that is a very slightly better fit but isn't guaranteed that I can even get into that group in the near future. At the same time, which do you think would be the better choice? School A is a little better regarded, but it is nearly a wash. Thanks in advance.
  12. Well no Berkeley for me either... =( They said that the emails were sent out, but there was some technical problem with their computer system so they didn't actually get sent and they are having their programmer work on it as we speak, so oh well.
  13. Hey, allow me my irrationality please. haha What number did you guys call to get your status? I think If I don't hear this afternoon I will call.
  14. Shit, I really was about to call, but everyone who calls is rejected. Looks like more waiting for me. Man this is driving me CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!! :x :x :x
  15. Yeah I am really down to debating whether to call or not, but since everyone who has called has been rejected, I am afraid to do it. I realize that it is not the case, but my irrational subconscious tells me that if I call, I am rejected. haha. And the waiting continues...
  16. Collins College, hands down. I want to go there for game design, since the commercials clearly show that I can just sit on the couch and play games and make money if I go there. What more could you want?
  17. Haha, well I would call them and ask as well, but I figure I will just wait for the email so that I can avoid the awkward denial conversation with whoever is on the other end just in case. haha.
  18. This is what Berkeley told me about two weeks ago verbatim: I still haven't heard either, so it should be literally any second...
  19. On the bright side, at least you are hearing from them so there is no more mystery?
  20. Thanks for the succinct and unhelpful answer, rising_star. You mind linking me to some of those threads instead of giving these short and condescending answers? On another note, does anyone know just how nice I should dress up for a campus visit? I have already been admitted and guaranteed funding at one place, and admitted without funding to the other. There was one other thread discussing what women should wear on an interview with a professor, but seeing as how I am not a woman and am going on a visit to schools where I have already been admitted, that my circumstances may be different.
  21. I just got that Cornell rejection too. They said they had 500 apps for 20 spots for their Ph.D. program, and that they couldn't offer me admission to that, but were willing to offer me admission to the M.Eng. program.
  22. Hell if I know. I would assume about the same as anywhere else, but I don't honestly know. I have never been there. I will be asking that sort of thing when I visit if I get in.
  23. As I understand it, that seems like a pretty good bet. On the other hand, if I get in, I will definitely make a trip out there, and if they say that for people who are M.S. with the intent to pursue a Ph.D. it is fairly easy to get yourself an RA or TA position on your own, then I might be willing to eat a semester of cost just so I can go there. That is all assuming that I get in of course.
  24. Not true. I applied as an MS/PhD to Cornell. I didn't want to bother with M.Eng. I wanted (A) the lower tuition rate and ( research.
