I have a few questions about Indy and IUPUI?
I'm very concerned about my ability to fit well into a big city. I did my undergrad in a very small city. I hate traffic.
Is IUPUI a super busy place- so much so that it is difficult to navigate? I have been there a few times... although not nearly as much as I would like, so that I could make a completely informed decision. When I was there I liked the city. The campus seemed nice as well. I'm a bit out-door-sey....I like to ride bikes and run and be outdoors.
I guess I am concerned that IU is not the place for me.
On the other hand, a great school in the Northeast is offering me a position. Unfortunately, for significantly less money. Which would put a bit of a stain on me- especially since I am from the opposite end of the country, and would like to travel back home to see family (to whom I am close to).
Anybody's thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Hey quick questions about Burlington, Vermont Im hoping someone could answer!!!
1- How often (if at all) does the town/ school shut down for snow/ bad weather?
2- How long is the walk from downtown Burlington to the campus?
3- How are the campus facilities? The library? The campus center? The fitness center? (Im a bit of a work out-aholic)
4- Is Burlington the type of place that shuts down at 12am? Or is it an up all night type of place?
5- Are there any places in Burlington I should avoid...meaning not good places to live (either not safe...too expensive?)
Any/ all of this would be a tremendous help!
I've been accepted to two programs. Indiana Gateway umbrella program (Indianapolis) and University of Vermont (Neuroscience Graduate program).
I am completely confused. I don't know which one to choose.
I've weighed all the factors. The money is not an issue. Although Indiana is giving me way more money...they're charging me fees etc. so that the two stipends are nearly identical.
I loved the research at both places. While Indiana would offer me more opportunities and options, Vermont has many faculty that I would love to work with as well.
I would much rather live in Burlington than Indianapolis with the exception of the winter. I hear they're brutal in VT. My life would be a lot easier in VT because it is a smaller school, smaller campus, smaller community.... although not very diverse. Indianapolis is similar to the city I live in now.
Help...I just don't know what to think...what to do...deadlines are approaching. Any insight would be appreciated.
If this is really what you want to do, taking out a loan should be a no brainer.
We take out loans for cars, houses, living expenses...all sorts of stupid stuff.
An education is a priceless investment.
Hey thanks. That really helps. I appreciate it. I was wondering what the best way to find a roommate in Burlington?
I have been looking at the classifieds.. Craigslist etc. Apartments are certainly do-able with a roommate. I am really uncertain about how to go about finding one.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
So I have been accepted to UVM and am seriously considering it. I loved Burlington and think I would love living there. I was wondering is it do able to live in Burlington on 20,000 a year? I am very worried about this and would appreciate input.
I applied to WashU (biomedical sciences PhD) and haven't heard anything as of mid March. I'm thinking this is not a good sign.
Just wondering what others were out there?
Hey congrats about the phone interview with UVM!!! I hope you nail it.
I interviewed with them last week. I felt that it went well. I find out this week if I get in.
I'm not sure where I will end up just yet though.
I applied to the neuroscience PhD program. I applied in Aug 08 (I know... neurotically early). I heard back February 11th, 09.
I know that all of their programs are small and accept only a few students every year. Admissions for neuro said they were only accepting 2-3 this year.
I hope you hear soon. Waiting is torture.
