  1. So glad I wasted all that time writing a proposal...
  2. Uh oh, my name starts with "H" and I haven't received a call..
  3. I don't get it. I just checked out my rating sheets and they both say "Excellent" or "Very Good". The only negative comment on either of the sheets is "However, the applicant is not as strong as other applicants overall".
  4. oh well, i'm sick of school anyway...
  5. Didn't get it... come on DOE!
  6. No, but I attended the visitation day last year and I'm a current student. Let me know if you have any questions.
  7. So is everyone moved in? Any grad students buying a meal plan? I'm thinking about it, especially since my kitchen is pretty dirty and I don't have a dishwasher. I just don't want to be the only person eating alone. Is it possible to get the food to go so I can eat it at my apartment?
  8. Housing assignments are up. I got Rains 2 bedroom.
  9. Has anyone here applied for loans? Any idea on when we'll hear back?
  10. I went with Rains, then Lyman, then Munger
  11. My favorite professor got his PhD in mechanical engineering from Notre Dame. I don't know anything about the program though, sorry.
  12. Yeah, that sounds about right. But your odds of getting accepted to the PhD program as a Stanford master's student are much, much higher than from outside the school. The A/E director said they'll soon be hiring a new professor, so that will open up space for about 6 new PhD students. I'm probably going to accept the offer this weekend too. I just filled out FAFSA, and since I worked full time last year, I don't know if I'll be eligible for any of the subsidized loans..
  13. Do you already have a job lined up? Have you made your decision between schools yet? It's going to be rough, but since I'll probably continue for a PhD, I think going to Stanford is probably the right decision.
  14. I'm starting to feel a little sick after looking more closely at all the expenses I will incur at Stanford. I know it's not a charity, but I find it hard to believe they don't have the resources for a couple extra assistantships or fellowships. I wish there was something I could do. A part time job won't even begin to scratch the surface of all the bills I'll be paying...
  15. Are you going to be meeting with any professors at Stanford this weekend? I guess I don't really have any suggestions on what you should check out. The Civil and Environmental building (Y2E2) is probably where you're going, right? Other than that, I just walked around the campus for a couple hours. Where did you find the list of prereqs? I'm going into the A/E program and when I was at the recruiting weekend, it sounded like I'd be fine with the courses I took as a ME undergrad. Now that I think about it, out of all the students in A/E at the recruiting weekend, I don't think a single person had a civil or environmental undergrad degree. Isn't the structures MS program only 45-units? Even if you add prereqs, there's no way it should take you 2 years and 2 quarters.
  16. Sounds like the story was already written, now he's just looking for people to validate his claims. Seems a little shady to me...
  17. I'm a mechanical engineer who will be going to Stanford for civil engineering next fall. Did you go to the recruiting weekend? I was really impressed with the place. I just don't understand why they don't have more funding opportunities...
  18. So... who here is going to live on campus?
  19. It was a week ago. I called them up letting them know I was visiting and the graduate coordinator said if I wasn't going to the recruiting weekend, it would be best to just contact professors myself. I told him I hadn't heard about any recruiting weekend and he said it was only for the very best student since UT is covering all costs of the visit. But what really pissed me off was that I was in Austin the same two days as the recruiting weekend and they still didn't invite me to the events.
  20. Did you get invited to the recruiting weekend? I didn't. It sort of pissed me off...
  21. I'm headed there next fall for civil and environmental engineering.

Which on campus graduate housing would work best for a young, single guy? I've heard that EV is full of families and everyone pretty much keeps to themselves. I'm looking for something a little more social... Also, anyone how are roomates selected?
  23. Yeah, I'm going to Stanford. How about you? Did you get the funding you were waiting for?
