  1. Hey tspeechie, have you found out if doing research is possible at CSUN? That is also a huge concern of mine-
  2. I called off work last minute(eek) and emailed Dr. Vermiglio if I can speak with him and have a tour. I haven't heard back yet but If anything, I'll go to the clinic and ask the front desk if they can give me a tour- this should be fairly common. I'm an hour away but I am considering relocating if I decide to go to CSUN. Regarding the deposit, I reread the letter and it doesn't say anything about a deposit. Like Astrid said before, I guess I can say 'yes' and see since there is no deposit... I also heard that the last cohort that was accepted (Fall 2011) were all CSUN undergrad/post bac students with the exception of ONE undergrad from CSUF. This sounds fishy but I heard it from a credible source. Can anyone back this up?
  3. I, too, just received my acceptance from Northridge and it changes a lot of things! I was pretty much set on CSUF until tonight. Since I did my undergrad at CSUF, I was looking to get out of here I meant, broaden my horizons. After the most difficult comparison between CSULA, CSULB, and CSUF, I have determined that CSUF will benefit me the most in the end. However, I love the idea of finishing in 2 years- CSULB's traditional program and CSUF both take around 2.5 years in general. CSULA said due to budget cuts, they can't promise you'll finish in 2 years as they have in the past (which totally reinforces everyone's budget cut concerns in previous posts). If finishing in two years is a guarantee, I would definitely look into CSUN. I'm also concerned that their class size will be big. They have around 50 graduates per year according to their website. Does anyone know anything about their class sizes? I've made last minute arrangements to visit the school tomorrow and tour the clinic, etc. But honestly, giving us less than 48 hours until noon on Wed is really ridiculous.
  4. I heard from CSUF on 03/24 if I remember correctly. I have recently heard that some people heard back as early as 03/15. Dunno how true this is but... that is... cray. Especially because their deadline was on 03/01.
  5. Just got an acceptance letter in my inbox for CSUN. They emailed it at 7pm today and they want an answer by Wed noon. That's less than 48 hours. RIDIC! But yay! ;D
  6. I interviewed for the Traditional Program - The interview was surprisingly easy going. They asked a couple questions about myself and a situation question... and that was pretty much it. It lasted 10-15 minutes. From speaking with other interviewees, their interviews went similarly. I felt like since LB doesn't require letters of recommendation or a letter of intent, they had already selected who they wanted and just interviewed the applicants as a screening process. So don't fret!
  7. I heard back from CSUF around March 24 via phone call and yes, I did interview with LB before my acceptance
  8. Thank you guys! And congrats, FutureSLP8 on your interview!. I am really in between CSUF and CSULB at this point. If I ever hear from CSUN or my waitlisted schools, it will be a different story-- Per my POI, CSUF would be great. However, CSULB has a VA hospital right next to the school and I've heard VA hospitals are an excellent training ground for training health professionals. Has anyone from Long Beach heard anything about working there? Also, is it true that you don't receive any grants in grad school? That you only receive financial aid in the form of loans? btw, I've already submitted my FAFSA.
  9. So it's April and it's time to get down to business. I've gotten over the grueling process of getting in, but now I'm having a hard time choosing a program between CSULA, CSUF and CSULB. I'm more interested in the more medical/neurology aspect of speech and I eventually want to complete my Ph.D. WHERE where, oh where??
  10. I believe research and being a TA are highly regarded - Find a school that reviews all applications, not just ones that are above a certain cutoff point. You might have an edge because of everything you are involved in. Focus on writing an impressive letter of intent.
