  1. Some thoughts on the MA... Applied to Williams, NYU, and Columbia, 2 acceptance and 1 still waiting. I think the best thing to do--or best thing for me to do--is probably going to the institutions and sit in classrooms. Audited a class in NYU last October, overwhelmed by how wonderful it was, and immediately decided to apply even the prof warned me of the competition. Oh well, hopefully we'll all end up with the perfect match. This forum has been such a great help for me, and thanks to everyone here posting, helping out others, and killing paranoid times.
  2. Anyone still waiting to hear back from NYU IFA? I didn't get email admission nor rejection letter, called today and told me I'm still a prospect........
  3. kid_grape: It's a field I sort of take on as a personal mission. Compared to the ever-accelerating dynamics in the Chinese art scene, the lack of Art History training in China is absurd, and even in the few programs that offered Art History studies--some undeniably very good, the approaches were different and language was certainly an issue for many critics and researchers in China (translation is such a problem for academia...once read a Chinese version for an Arthur Danto book and I couldn't make sense of it in my native language. I guess that's why we Art history folks have to be multi-lingual) . I felt I could and should make a difference with my backgrounds both in the Chinese aesthetics and languages as well as Western critical approaches. I know a professor at Columbia who once offered a course on Xu Bing, one of China's most prominent contemporary artists--but indeed most institutions don't offer graduate level courses on this subject. Strangely enough, my college actually had a course on Modern and Contemporary Chinese art, but only two ppl took it (including me) and the professor wasn't plan to teach it again in the foreseeable future. Also learned a great deal from working at Sotheby's Contemporary Chinese Art Department--it's such an exciting field because I have to constantly keep up with it. As for masters, I still would like to learn in greater depth of everything while keeping an eye on Contemporary Chinese Art. Elusivemuse--I'm actually an international student from China studying in a US liberal arts college. Glad that you felt such affinity for Beijing cuz most ppl think Shanghai and Hong Kong are more foreigner-friendly. lol. Did you check out the 798 Art Village in Beijing?
  4. Hey I love El Jaleo as well! I'm graduating from college this may so I'm not sure what I will eventually specialize in. my forte is definitely Asian art, both classical and Contemporary, specially Contemporary Chinese Art....yet I'm trying to build a solid knowledge system for all arts across cultures and throughout time. What comes after is probably Architecture, as I'm a double major in Art History and Mathematics, the rhythmic beauty of architecture always gives me a double thrill: both that of aesthetic and of genius calculation.
  5. To Curatorcritic: I'm wondering if you would mind sharing when you were notified by Columbia's MA in Modern Art...I applied for the general M.A in Art History but I assume they should give out results at about the same time....last week a friend of mine in Columbia's general MA program told me they are just finalizing PhD admissions and haven't quite started reading MA applications. not sure when to expect hearing back from them...thanks a lot in advance~
  6. I'm also an international student...waiting is so nerve wracking.
  7. Congrats to the Williams acceptance! That is really an early result, hopefully more will come out soon.
  8. nyu results will be out in less than a week....>
  9. Hey Monetlover, I think that's a great strategy too. I'm just still unsure whether to devote another 5 to 7 years in school--Masters seem just right for me. So you didn't apply to any Masters? If you have, have you heard anything yet? Good luck to your applications and god bless everyone....
  10. thanks ah-gal for the info...they told me that results will come out in 10 days. Anyone here only applied to Masters? I'm graduating from college in May therefore it is almost impossible to get in top PhD programs with crazy amazing folks who have already published or have been teaching...just wondering if anyone's got similar situations.. best luck to everyone tho, as I know results on MA will come out soon from many schools
  11. Anyone applied to Williams? They just had a major screwup with the online app system where no way was able to pay the application fee, and they just sent out emails asking ppl to pay again...anyone got similar emails? I got the notice when I emailed about my application status, but would they just let my application remain incomplete had I not asked?...anyways...any thoughts?
