  1. Hey, guys. I've been at Tech since Spring of last year doing my MSME. I finish this fall. Overall, Atlanta is ok. Not a city I can fall in love with, but definitely not the craphole people tried to convince me it was. The weather is a definite plus. I dunno, living without a car in Atlanta would be a bit of a hassle if you plan on going places away from campus. I live right beside Piedmont Park (which is an awesome park, btw) and I can walk to campus, but usually just walk down to Midtown MARTA station and take the Tech Trolley to campus. Otherwise, you probably will need a car to get to places where there isn't a MARTA stop. I am glad I chose Tech for my MS. The campus is beautiful and there are so many interesting projects going on in all the labs and many student build projects if that tickles your fancy more than research. The school is definitely socially focused on its engineering student body so if you're a nerd or even a nerd at heart, you'll love going to school here.
  2. I've only seen Alexander on Ponce and 100 Midtown. I drive by Alexander on Ponce when I go to the Publix by there and it's a good area from what I saw. 100 Midtown is also in a good area. It's right beside the chinese restaurant I order from a lot, haha.
  3. Hey, guys. I'm currently at Georgia Tech and just finished my first semester of my MS in Mechanical Engineering. So far, I like GT a lot. Atlanta is ok. I live in Midtown and just walk to the MARTA station and ride the Tech Trolley to campus and back which makes commuting easier. I'd be glad to answer any other questions if you guys have any. Welcome to Tech
  4. Anyone starting at Georgia Tech this Spring? I'm starting MS in Mechanical Engineering and relocating from DC to Atlanta.
  5. I got accepted into UW yesterday for MSME. I visited the campus last Friday while in Seattle for work and the campus was absolutely gorgeous. Ate at Blue C Sushi in U Village, good stuff, haha. I'm still waiting to hear from the other schools I applied to, but UW is definitely in my mind. Congrats to all that will be attending!
  6. Yea, I contacted all the professors whose work I was interested in at the time I submitted my applications. Some emailed back, a lot did not. Out of the ones who emailed back, only two chose not to continue correspondence (this is because I am applying to be an MS student rather than a PhD student). I just wanted to touch base with the professors to see if they were at least open to letting me do some research with them because that would affect my decision to attend that particular school or not.
  7. I took the Kaplan course back in April for the "Old" GRE and I thought the amount of online material they had was superb. The practice tests they had, 6 total with a hyperlink to the 2 Powerprep tests, were pretty accurate representations of the real test, IMO. I scored 50 points higher on the actual GRE in the Quantitative section and about the same for the Verbal. Again, the this was for the "Old" GRE. Sorry I couldn't help you out with the "New" GRE. Good luck!
  8. I emailed back to every professor who emailed me back, even the ones who gave me very terse replies. Just shows you appreciate them taking the time to answer you email, which they didn't have to do in the first place.
