Fall 2013 English Lit Applicants

Even though the ratings really only measure reputation, not quality, I'm still going to be watching Buffalo and WVU like a hawk... -

Hmm, it looks like US News & World Report will have new English rankings in mid-March. One more thing to wonder about. -

Oh, I was just guessing Rutgers. I haven't seen anyone talk about news from there yet, so I think you're still okay. -

Thanks you! At this time, yes, I'm definitely leaning toward Buffalo, but I'm trying not to put myself in decision-making-mode just yet. I still have a lot of unknowns, but Buffalo has been one of my top choices since I applied. There is a visit next month so if I can manage it around the time that I just happen to also be both moving and submitting my master's thesis, I will go and check out the program. I'm excited! -

Congrats, Pim! Brown is freaking amazing. Exactly 3 years ago today I received my first MFA/MA rejection from the University of Wyoming. I remember this because it is my birthday (one more small hint of exactly who I am forever cemented on the internet). That was pretty crappy. But today I got notification that I've been awarded a fellowship at Buffalo, so... best present possible. -

I got Case Western and Duke rejections today. Case wasn't a great fit and Duke was a long-shot. Thanks for making my decision that much easier, schools! -

Way to go, LisaJay, mostlytoasty, and isol3!! Congrats all around! A few drinks gets that kind of party going! Also, I agree that N = humanities people generally, but not always, of course. I always score like 96% N. -

I certainly am, even though I have very mixed feelings about Carl Jung. -

Pretty much every school I applied to requires it, as did my MA. First-year fellowships sometimes allow a student to have the first year off from teaching, like at NYU. I don't think this is the norm, though. I don't think comparative lit students are used to teach freshman comp as much as English students, so there might simply be fewer classes to teach. I be completely wrong in this, though. -

All Quiet on the Western Front. If rejected, though, I'm unlikely to be offered the MA unless they think I might want a 2nd MA in English. It's possible the acceptances went out... I think last year there were only 4 total, so Grad Cafe just might not have any of them. I also heard nothing from Case Western today. I've heard from exactly 1 school per week for the past 4 weeks, so in order to keep that up I'll need some news tomorrow! -

This isn't that different from being in a restaurant and thinking your server only has one table and you're sitting at it.
