Another Berkeley acceptance today?

I'd put money on trolling. The timing was just too perfect, it was within half an hour after I made this topic (yeah, I'm checking that often), and it's listed as website. If you look at the results survey it's phone or email.

I'm really hoping they start letting people know soon. I'm at the edge of my seat because around now is the early end of when they have begun to notify people in the past. Also I'm pretty sure I made a lot of people's hearts skip a beat when they saw this topic.

I doubt it. For a few reasons. On the results board for past years, a handful of people get this message. The email addressed me by name, and I'm assuming they did for you too. If it were a blanket rejection they wouldn't spend time on that. It's a complete waste of time to consider all PhD rejections for the MA, I would wager the hierarchy is: Acceptances Wait-listed Consider for MA Rejected Maybe a box got unchecked when you applied, or they wrote you that without checking the application and they'll stop considering once they start going through MA apps?

Just got an email: Not accepted to PhD, being considered for MA, final decision by the end of February. Excited to not be rejected, but I know they don't fund MA's...

Mine doesn't say "Admission accepted," it says "Acceptance Confirmed: NA"

Mine still hasn't been updated. Blowing a gasket right now...NYU and Buffalo were two of my better shots, I felt, and I haven't heard from either.

Berkeley has results out for other departments, but the results survey pins them at a Feb. 7-8 date for starting to report results for English.

Also wasn't Kansas' app due on the 31st? How is the turnaround so quick on those?

Definitely not up for any of the ones I'm applying to, although I can't even log into Buffalo's status page. Perhaps this means we'll get those decisions soon?

I mean, I don't think there's really any topic that just isn't "worthwhile." You mention you're a junior? I'll offer two pieces of advice, and maybe other people can agree/disagree with this. 1. TAKE TIME OFF AFTER GETTING YOUR BA. Especially if you want a PhD. But you mature more as a person, as well as intellectually in that time. And a PhD is a big commitment...unless you are beyond positive that that's what want to do, I wouldn't even go. 2. The way you describe your topic...it needs to be more fleshed out/get more specific. "Doubt" isn't really a unique concept, if you want to talk about individuality, but as you take time and learn more you'll probably zero in on something a little more specific.

Is the Blackout affecting anyone else? No Reddit, No Wikipedia...yet I keep going to them. There's not even PennSound or UbuWeb...

When did you take it? October had very little Identification, and what ID-ing there was was fairly simple IIRC

Ha, maybe I should clarify--I find those female novelists from ~1800 to ~1930 boring. Like, just can't sustain my interest. That's what I meant by awful--like I'm gonna come in here and say that everyone has been wrong on the Brontes' this whole time? Yeah right, it's Just not my cup of tea. There are a number of female writers I like though. I was just reading some of Bernadette Mayer's Sonnets, and earlier I finally found a copy of Sharon Mesmer's "Annoying Diabetic Bitch." Exciting afternoon. Glad Grunty understood what I meant when I said they were awful, some people here sound like they're going to plotz.

I know less about the Comp Lit department, only insofar as it intersects with the English department, but I do know that they are far more theory oriented. How do you feel about Lacan? Because if so I think Jean Michele Rabate would be your man. Simultaneous Lacan/Flaubert/Joyce scholar. Loves "conspiracy theory" readings, loves theory...really great. Where's your British/French modernism interest centered around? As far departmental crossing goes, Perelman is a good Pound/Eliot person, and Bernstein got his degree in Philosophy at Harvard under Cavell, and does a bit with folks like Stein and Wittgenstein. And how do you feel about Walter Benjamin? There are a lot of folks in both departments that love him--definitely a great school to do work with the Arcades Project (Kenny Goldsmith is actually doing a rewriting of The Arcades Project right now). Sorry I can't be AS helpful with Comp Lit. And yeah, totally a drag to lose Guyer.
