  1. What would you prefer? What do you know about these universities, chemistry departments, cities, quality of life and so on? I've been admitted at USC and I've been recommended for admission by UBC 2 weeks ago, still waiting and hoping for an official admission letter. Assuming that I'm admitted also at UBC, this will be an hard decision. My main concern is to chose the best graduate program between them. What would you suggest? I'm European, so I don't have particular preferences about Canada/US, since each of them would be a totally new environment to me!
  2. thank you! how do you suggest to behave? if he's totally honest, will this affect his chances of admission? And if he seems interested and he's admitted, is he forced to join this group then? Can someone change his preferences after the admission?
  3. Hi, My boyfriend is required to do a Skype interview with a professor he didn't mention in his SOP and whose research interests are in another field, weakly related with my bf research area. We can't figure out why! Have you been in the same situation? Usually, is the interviewer a potential supervisor?
  4. Hi! I'm an international applicant for fall 2012. I have some questions about a TA duties, expecially if he is a non-native English speaker. Are non-native speakers supposed to give lectures as native speakers? Or they have other kinds of responsibilities ? Will someone explain a TA what he is supposed to do?I mean..what he has to explain in class and how to do that, how to interact with students ecc... I'm really excited about teaching, but since I don't have much experience and English is not my first language, I'd like to know what I'm going to meet there. For example I suppose that also students behaviour in class could be different from country to country, and I want to be prepared in order to really help students. Maybe someone in this forum had (or still have) an international grad student as TA and can tell me his impression! ;-)
