Hey guys, I'm thinking about applying for PhD programs in applied math, with the goal of eventually working for a development bank or agency. My background is in economics (details below) - are there any programs worth looking at that incorporate econometrics? Right now, my top choice is UT-Austin's ICES program, since it's in-state and they have a track for students without an engineering or pure math background. Background: GRE: 1430 (800 M/630 V), taken in 2009 Undergrad: University of Houston, B.S. Economics and Political Science, 3.3 GPA Math classes taken: Calc I, II, III Grad school: Texas A&M, Master of International Affairs, 3.6 GPA Concentrations in International Economics, Economic Development, Multinational Enterprises Math classes taken: Statistics, Econometrics, Impact Evaluation, Trade Policy (Stata-heavy) Two years work experience, but in a completely unrelated field. The Bush School was the only school that I applied to, and I was accepted to the MPIA program. I was a marginal applicant due to a dire GPA, so I didn't bother applying to the top tier schools, but my GRE and recommendations were strong enough to get me in. I had considered applying to LBJ as well, but my undergrad (U. Houston) professors steered me to A&M, since they held their IA program in higher esteem. To be honest, I'm chuffed that I was accepted anywhere, and my campus visit and interview session left me with a positive impression of the program. Since I'm a lefty who has lived in big cities all my life, CS will take some getting used to, but at least Houston and Austin are only a short drive away :mrgreen:

I was accepted to the MPIA program, on the IED track. Can't wait! I've lived in big cities all my life, including undergrad at UH, so life in CS will take some getting used to. At least Houston and Austin are only an hour and a half away...

Did anyone else go to the Texas A&M-Bush School interviews last weekend? They had about 80 people, and 55-60 get in, so the odds are pretty decent. However, I'm still nervous because I was a marginal candidate (terrible GPA, great GRE and recommendations).
