  1. Tried to look around a bit...couldn't find too much info provided by them besides their Heller Nonprofit MBA class profile (which might be useful to some degree?) http://heller.brandeis.edu/academic/mba/misc/profile.html If you just search the school name, you can usually find posts/stats of people who are applying to that school in the admissions/acceptances threads. Here are a few I quickly found:
  2. What exactly are your long-term goals? If you want to work in DC, yeah, you may not want to go to the Bush School (though to be honest I am not 100% sure about its connections to other parts of the country). If location is more important - and you want to live in Texas - the Bush School is a fantastic choice as Texas is pretty much LBJ/Bush for policy (a few other schools are in Texas as well, but UT/A&M are the most highly regarded). The Bush School also is known to give pretty generous funding, which can be a huge factor if one wants to work in the public sphere because, let's face it, the pay isn't the best and racking up a load of debt may not be the wisest decision (but this is a personal choice). It's a balancing act and you have to know what your priorities are.
  3. Did you check the results page on this site? http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=heller
  4. Oh, didnt realize you were going for PhD and not MPAff. Regardless, I'm sorry to hear about that. Good luck in your other apps.
  5. Just got the invitation in my e-mail. (I'm doing MPSA, if that matters at all since that conference is a week earlier than the other.)
  6. I wonder if they just go through and reject a bunch quickly based off of scores/gpa/quick glance at experience.
  7. I also saw it is in mid-March, so that is kind of weird there was a rejection so soon... I wonder if it is even true because that is unlike anything I've heard about their admissions in the past.
  8. Oh. Odd that they do that when the deadline is Jan. 11th. Thanks for the info, though. Worried when I hadn't heard from them.
  9. Ohh, I didn't get that email. How are they just reviewing them now?
  10. notifications for the interview weekend should be soon (early Feb)
  11. i think not going to school at all would be better than going to law school...especially if it's not a top tier one. what that says about an MPA vs a JD, im not sure. just that law school is pretty much a terrible idea at this point in time
  12. how bad did you bomb it? do you have any math/stat classes you took and did well in?
  13. contact an admissions counselor
  14. what are your stats? and how come youre looking at those schools if youre from FL?
  15. btw that was a joke you are fine and no one will care at all. i doubt people will even notice
  16. i will just be honest with you because i feel like that would be best: you're pretty screwed. what would you think as an ADCOM if an applicant couldn't even format his resume correctly? not just that, but i know ADCOMs ding people if they think they cant even take the time to properly complete their application
  17. i would say work until you actually have more of an idea, so as to not invest time and money into something you dont want to do if not that, then choose one thing that you want/may want to do (preferably something that you can make evident by experiences/work), and say you want to do that. no one follows you around and makes sure you are doing what you said you would do in your SOP. so, if you worked for an ngo previously, say that. if youve done more think-tank stuff, say that.
  18. "being a bad test-taker" is a lame response and is usually only said by people who wouldn't score high even if they WERE good test takers (no offense, and dont think you were gonna say this anyways) the only thing you could do is point to specific examples (good grades in math/stat classes, point out higher level math you do in a job, etc) if you're ill, why would only one section be affected? if something happened, why would only your math score be affected? regardless, i would address it in some way, just so you acknowledge that it isnt that great of a score and you know it, but that in real life, you are able to do the math you need to do. if possible, have one of your recommenders address it in their letter
  19. That seems about right. Especially the part about how a high GRE can help boost up average scores (see: every single law school) And, I always take what adcoms and websites say with a grain of salt. While it is true that they probably look at this holistically, there are definitely some things that matter more and they just don't say it
  20. how about on the opposite side of the spectrum, ridofme (or anyone)? can GRE scores actually push you over the edge? how good do they even have to be? i feel like the answer to that question answers the question of just how important they are
  21. make an email account with a fake name then email the advisors at harvard
  22. is coursework that big of a deal, or is it just good to?
  23. I have multiple years of experience as an AmeriCorps member, but because of my undergraduate major choice, i don't have any coursework in econ, history, govt, etc. what is the best way to address this (or do i just not address it, and focus more on my experience?) going for nonprofit studies, btw
