  1. I'm out of state the first year, but I'm a US citizen. They offered me "at least 15k" but that includes a TAship. I think the total tuition for both years will be around $20k or less.
  2. I know for sure that it does mean something in painting. I asked my friend who is a current second year painter there if people get off the waitlist and he said "ALL OF THE TIME." that often, people will get into both Columbia and Yale for example, and chose to be in ny (or with their faculty or funding). That said, you should probably call and see how they decide who gets off etc.
  3. yaaaaay congrats everyone! if anyone is on the waitlist for vcu sculpture, I have maybe good news for you? I'm going to UCLA!
  4. I second that, wait lists are a good sign. People could be getting into multiple schools and choose another over yale for any number of reasons. There is still hope!
  5. I think when you bring things though you have to release the school from responsibility if something happens. Ugh, but still, what a bummer. I don't know if it's any consolation, but I had a teacher who used to say when things like this happened, that you made it once, you have it in you to make it again!
  6. there are income-based student loan repayment plans! I don't think you'll ever have to get extra jobs to make student loan payments http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/OtherFormsOfRepay.jsp Thank you Obama!
  7. I'm really sorry to post this right after you greentyme, but someone asked about the vcu package this is what they told me (sculpture) full tuition for the first year ~18k (out of state) stipend ~10k of which around 4k would be spent in fees to the university the stipend would require 15 hours of work a week, either as a TA or a lab monitor basically. they said that for the second year there is substantial money but that they can't really guarantee it, bc the amounts fluctuate from year to year
  8. seeing other people's work is so great. it reminded me of this work www.brendan-smith.com
  9. hey guys Thanks for the support! Cheers to everyone who has been hearing good news of late!! It's exciting that soon we'll be able to focus on making things. I'm posting because I heard that my friend got an interview with USC, so it seems confirmed that if we haven't heard anything yet, we're out.
  10. Hey guys, So I have another update-- today I got an email acceptance to VCU sculpture! But I know for sure that they're still notifying people for interviews, they go kind of slowly.
  11. Just heard word, I got into UCLA New Genres! by phone.
  12. Online the decision status is still "complete ready for review" and it's a skype interview for me
  13. I got an interview request a few days ago, and R.Mutt called and they said that they were sending out interview requests over the next few weeks.
  14. These timelines are terrible. UCLA told me that I would hear something again in March or April!
  15. They emailed me. I'm abroad though, I don't know if that mattered.
  16. I just got an interview request for vcu sculpture!
  17. thanks! Today I learned they have about 9 studio visits per quarter (10 weeks) and that in addition to that there are one or two group crit classes. The faculty IS fantastic! For me it's a huge draw.
  18. congrats! They told me that they were talking to 7 applicants for 3 spots. Good luck!
  19. That's really good to know, thanks! Do you know more about the program? I actually don't know that much about it, like how many students are in the department or how often crits are. I have the impression that you work relatively autonomously.
  20. Hey guys, Just an update-- today I got an email from UCLA new genres with an interview request! I'm applying from abroad though, so I'm not sure what their timeline is like. Maybe they're doing skype interviews separately? I guess this means applicants will hear soon?
  21. thanks! that's kind of a relief, though I know their application was due later than most schools
