    WAIT LIST!?!

I too got into waiting list at Cranbrook. I am so anxious because cranbrook is top of my wish list. I don't know how many chances I have.... who will turn down cranbrook??? They told me that they will reconsider it at 20April but I am not sure when they will send me their final decision. How long should I wait? I also don't know how many people got into the waiting list and which order I am in?? Do you guys know if I should call them to ask? Is it okay to ask about my chances ? How to ask politely? Please help!! But I notice that most waiting list got accepted... Is it a good sign? =)
  4. Hi, I applied to MFA design program too! and I am in the same situation as you.... don't have much design background (I graduated in advertising, working as a copywriter), self-taught designer, do some freelance graphic design. Well, I totally understand your stress. Thinking to go into somewhere that may surrounding with many 'genius' design people. I don't know much about Art center so I will kept it for other people who knows better. As for CCA, I used to talked with one of their faculty staff. Since I do afraid that I don't have design foundation and I don't know if I am 'capable' to fit in their Master degree. She just said that even the department require student with design background but for the lack-design-knowledge-student who have the 'eye for design' is kind of student they want to develop. She think the department can help you with some foundation you don't have. I do understand that you're accepted to CCA's BFA not MFA...I think MFA is value and the faculty's staff told me that the portfolio of the MFA student and BFA is totally different. MFA has more focus in the work while BFA is in middle of that. My though is you should go to MFA. I think BFA is taking too much time for the money you've to pay for... you know, CCA is pretty expensive art school. Anyway, I applied to CCA's MFA design too but I was rejected from them so... enough talking about CCA T_T I am accepted to Pratt master in communication design too. The thing I don't like in Pratt is I think they are too greedy. As international student, I am force to take their english exam even I have TOEFL score of 610. It is really unfair because they state clearly in website that TOEFL over 600 is not require to take the exam. The approximate student in communication design program is 70.... 70!! it is very very huge class. Beside academy of art in SF, all my friend who want to study design are accepted to Pratt and someone I know who graduate from Pratt aren't that good. However, I do found some value in Pratt. Their program is designed for student who don't have much design background. So, basically, they will teach you like BFA class in their MFA program! some typography class, composition class blah blah blah. Now, my hope is Cranbrook academy of art. I was interview in mid-March. now, waiting for their final decision. It might be the toughest because I heard that the class is pretty intense. However, I like the idea of the program that the artist-in-residence will taught you to be the best designer YOU can be .But in other school, they will taught you to be the best designer THEY want you to be. Anyway, I heard that Detroit city is pretty scary.. horchata, just choose what you think is value to your life most. I mean, calculate the money you have to lose and compare it with the final outcome when you've graduated. Graduated from Pratt Mdes, CCA's BFA or MFA art center - Will you become who you want to be with all the money you have spend?
  5. hey guys, Have anyone heard from this following? MFA design, Graphic design ; -SVA -MICA -RIT ??? Also, I had interview with cranbrook (2D design) but I still not heard their final word... anyone received their email/postal yet?
  6. To those who apply to Pratt for Mdes, communication design. I just want to share that I got email saying that I got accepted since early of March. and the mail packet arrived a week later. If you didn't hear anything from them yet, I think you should call to ask them since I think the decision is already come out (both rejection and acceptance) and you should received it already. I just call the CCA and found that I was not accepted. I feel lose my confident much since I think I rarely see people got rejection from CCA. However, I was surprise I get interview at Cranbrook which, I personally think, far better (yes, I mean if I got accepted later) !! So, I think that my portfolio may catch the eye for very few people, may be it is too unique (or too weird, haha). Now : MFA - Design, Graphic design, communication design, Visual communication design or whatever they called.. Cranbrook - interview March 11 (they said to release out their decision this week, so excite!!) Pratt - Accepted via email Yale - Rejection via postal letter SAIC - Rejection via postal letter CCA - Rejection via email University of washington, seattle - Rejection via postal letter (no reply yet) SVA - wait MICA - wait and wait RIT - wait and wait and wait Anyway, have anyone heard about how is RIT (Rochester institute of technology)? I see it in ranking about I don't heard anybody talking about going there... I really want to know if it has a good graphic design department? Goodluck to everyone!
  7. westivity, I have sent you an email thru the forum system, not sure if you have received it. I just want to ask you something about the cranbrook stuff. My email is aimelie.aimaim@gmail.com Please check your email if you have received mine. Thanks!
  8. Brosenth1984, I just have some question about your answer. What do you mean by in pratt you will "make better contacts"??? I am not sure if I understand it right. Most of my friend encourage me to go to Pratt but I still feel that Cranbrook is the diamond that I can't miss....
  9. I just got interview via cranbrook, before the interview, I am pretty nervous about it because I never have an interview before. Overall, it is pretty good than I think. the prof ask mostly ask about my portfolio like 'can you tell me about this xxxxx03.jpg' it seem that he interest about my attitude toward work. and here is the list of question I can think of : - please explain this work (xxxx03.jpg) - Have you done research about cranbrook, how much do you know about cranbrook teaching method - can you describe yourself, beside the graphic design world. such as personal habit etc. - Do you have any question?? (I think this is important part since I think they want to know your interest about attending this school) Best of wish to everyone who going to get interview. I think the best shot you can do is being yourself and trying not to get nervous of it much. Don't try to think of which answer is the best or which answer can get you to be most interesting, I think they interview many people and they face a lot of this kind of cliche answer. Just tell them, honestly, I think xxxxxxxx, to tell you the truth, I am really bad at this xxxxx. This is what they interest in you.
  10. for #1 I have read some post saying that you can call to ask the school why you are rejected. and some people say that sometime they reconsider the admission. I am not sure if it is true because I don't think school can provide reason for every rejection. But it may good to try?? #2 I have heard a lot of things about Pratt. But the very good thing is its location. NY, surrounding with unlimited resource of Art and Museum. I have heard that Pratt graduate class per one program is 70. which is very very huge class to me. In Cranbrook academy of art, they only accept 8-11 graduate student per years. So I am not sure if the quantity of the class and destroy its quality. Anyway, I am curious about my CCA's MFA design outcome since I have search in the submit result here and 2 people got the acceptance via email at March 12 and until now, I still got nothing in my email. So I wonder if this mean I don't have a single chance for CCA at all? Or miracle can happen, I just hope they may email to me a little late.... Anyone got suggestion on this?? I am dying to know the CCA result coz I put high hope on it T_T I don't see CCA made a rejection to student much so I wonder of how bad my portfolio is...
  11. Thanks very much for your advice brosenth1984, I am now looking forward to where teach better. But I don't have such intensive design background much so I am curious if I am match to cranbrook or not. but I heard that Pratt is a pretty commercial place to study. I am international student, beside my toefl score 610, I have to test Pratt's exam of english before I get in and if I didn't get enough score. I have to take an english class when I study normal design class! which is too much greedy, I think. But if you mention it is a good place to get some connection. I think Pratt give more benefit. I am still in doubt. It is so hard to decide my future right now!
  12. I just looking around in the result search here. I am very disappoint because I found that people who apply to CCA, design MFA already got the accepted email since March 12. But I still don't received such email at all.. so I guess I have to wait for reject letter T_T This is a bit disappoint. I really put a high hope into CCA since I got the TOEFL 610 and I think I should have a better chance since not many international student reach their 600 score requirement. but apparently, I was wrong. Here is my list of apply : Cranbrook : interview Pratt : accepted CCA : don't know yet but assume to got rejection SAIC : reject Yale : reject UW : reject SVA : don't know yet RIT : don't know yet MICA : don't know yet I cross my finger on SVA coz this is one of my top list. I heard that good program in design there. Hurrrrr.... I got into the interview at Cranbrook (2D design), and got accepted at Pratt(communication design). If I have to choose between this two. Where should I go?? Any one please help!
  13. Hi there, Just got some suggestion from collegeconfidential.com that I should post on this gradcafe =) I am the international student applying for master degree in Graphic design program. Few days ago, I got a letter from Pratt that I got accepted to their M.S. communication design program. Anyway, I also got a email from Cranbrook academy of art saying that I was selected as a finalist for possible inclusion in autumn 2009 studio. They said that they would like to invite me to interview. As a foreigner, I would have to make it on conference call. So, my question would be how many chances I have for got accepted? My friend said that they may already accept me but they just want to know my attitude and make sure I am not crazy (..haha) but the other say that it may be the another stage of application process (may be 50 candidate to interview and choose only 14 student). Anyone who got into cranbrook might help me out on this? Or anyone who has any clue on interview process? I google about how student interview like but mostly, I found the information on MBA, business school interview. Not many interview for art school. Also, is Cranbrook a good art school? Not many people talk about this school. I have apply for graduate program at MICA - no answer yet SVA - no answer yet CCA - no answer yet Got only Yale (not accepted), SAIC (not accepted), Cranbrook (finalist to interview), Pratt (accepted) Thanks in advance!!!
