  1. Welp, just received my rejection from SVA. So I suppose it's San Fran if I get funding or reapplication. Maybe I'll bum around Europe for a year and see what's up in regards to residency programs.
  2. I wish SVA would reject me so I can finally have this process over with! This lack of information is killing me. I was vaguely told over the phone that letters and emails were sent out on different dates, but a friend got accepted into the same major as me on Monday via email, so I suppose I have to assume the worst.
  3. So I still haven't heard back from SVA, I know a bunch of people have been receiving acceptance/waitlist emails, so does this mean I can assume that I'm out of the running?
  4. A buddy of mine just got accepted into SVA via email. Anyone else hear from them?
  5. I started getting emails about financial aid and admission events, so I called and it took them about 2 seconds to let me know that I was accepted!
  6. Just got officially accepted into SFAI! Now I'm waiting on rejections from Columbia and Slade, and still haven't given up hope on SVA (I wonder if I am being naive in that hope).
  7. So I'm pretty sure it's a no go with Slade and Columbia at this point (although I haven't heard anything official), but I was wondering when SVA lets people know. They are my last chance of getting into an NYC school! I hope one can come through so I will at least have a choice between 2 schools (SFAI unofficially said yes through the skype interview). Despite this I have a question to ask. While funding is difficult to come by for the majority of us, except for the lucky fully funded few, has anyone looked at scholarship opportunities? I was nominated for the Jack Kent Cooke scholarship, which would pay up to $50k a year if I was awarded it, but because this chance is slim I was wondering if there are any other opportunities that people are looking into? (or already have, I understand that it is quite prudent to be secretive about the upcoming deadlines!)
  8. I just got the same letter, and thought the same thing.
  9. Just had the same experience! The worst was when we had only a couple of weeks to file the FAFSA for them and we received a reminder email every other day or so!
  10. I haven't heard anything from Slade yet. It seems that they did interviews on Feb 24th last year. I have no idea whether they are going by the same schedule, but this does make me worried. I wish I could know one way or another, the lack of info is constantly hovering over me. Any insight is warmly welcomed.
  11. Hey thanks so much! I'm glad you liked them! I used to do huge amounts of sketches and composition studies for each piece, laying everything down with tracing and transfer paper trying to compose everything to the nth degree, but this process ended up giving me very stunted and deadened pieces. My process now is to quickly jot down sketches at night, and then instantly transfer them fee-hand onto the canvas with a gray wax pencil, and then I lay on color using a mix of glazing and alla prima. Color is usually made up on the spot using about 12 pigments on the palette. I don't consult natural photography, but I watch a lot of wildlife documentaries, which I am sure inform the work to some degree. They usually range in size anywhere from 11"x14" to 36"x60" depending on how complex and how much time I want to spend on them.
  12. Well I just finished the interview, and I think my nervousness came through a little bit, I got tongue tied in certain places. Annoyingly my laptop's camera wouldn't work, so I could see the interviewer but they couldn't see me. I got all the basic questions like, why did I want to attend the program, do you have any questions for us, etc. and the rest were based on my portfolio and statement. The interviewer said that my portfolio was rated highly by the admissions board and that I was likely to be on the admit list, so I am really relieved about that. All in all it was pretty taxing to my nerves, and I got overly anxious, but I think it went okay overall.
  13. Skype interview with SFAI's painting program in about 30 minutes! I am very nervous!
