  1. Definitely a strong application. I bet you would be really happy at the university of Texas at Austin. You seem like a big sports fan from your post as well, so you'd be really happy with the football team.
  2. Someone posted the below link in another section of forum. I think jmbky1 has single-handedly earned whatever school he goes to at least an honorable mention on the list. Way to go jmbky1. http://men.style.com/gq/features/landin ... tent_10779
  3. August 26th here, I have some 4 hour engineering orientation tomorrow, and then something called Gone to Texas after that for all new students.
  4. I have lived in GT housing for the last 4 years and I can absolutely promise you that it will be a terrible experience. They have absolutely no concern for the students. The people in charge of housing treat you like you're back in middle school, they don't trust you for anything and will not do anything to accommodate you. Please don't make my mistake, live off campus, it will be infinitely better. There are many decent places to live right around campus. I have not heard anything about Crecine, but I have heard really good things about the post-biltmore apartments that are right to the north of campus, easily in walking distance. Also, if you will have a car I would suggest taking a look at the Vinings at river parkway apartments. They are cheap, in a really good area, and not too far from campus. Just make sure you don't live in south Atlanta and you should be fine. hope your housing hunt goes well, and please do not live in campus housing, read through the contract, it is ridiculous and they are never lenient.
  5. haha, you wont find anything like that in winston, and most likely not in greensboro either. you have it good wherever you are right now. And it's true, there really is nothing like Greece, maybe I'll go live there too.
  6. haha, yeah everyone thinks its a fraternity thing, I am Greek. I'm not too sure about the greek community in greensboro, but I know the church and community in winston is great. I've been going to that church as long as I can remember and the priest is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
  7. I would take a look at tech's housing contract, it's on the housing website. basically they place absolutely all liability on the students. they do not care about the student's well being in the least. I am misfortunate enough to be in one of their apartments this school year. They have been doing construction on my building since AUGUST. This was not announced to the students until after the construction started, well after we moved in and had no chance to cancel our contracts. and it's not light construction, it is very loud and intrusive, monday-saturday, 8am on the dot every day. Also, if you can find some of the things they fine you for you will see how ridiculous they are. I know one fine that they love is the "furniture improperly arranged upon moveout" fine ($30). Basically they make you pay them $30 to move a chair from one room to another. I could go on and on about how much I hate the housing department but I've ranted enough for now. Let me know if you have any more questions about it.
  8. y2k: I am currently at tech and my only advice for you is do NOT live in Georgia Tech housing. It is terrible. If you want to live near campus, check out apartments in midtown. I know the post-biltmore apartments are very highly thought of among students living in them and they are basically on the border of campus. Please look at places other than tech housing.
  9. I've lived in winston my whole life. I can tell you that it is a really boring place to live. If you like smaller town living then it would be great for you. The city is full of upper middle class snobs and their kids who are way too bored and unnapreciative of their lives, so they go around vandalizing people's property for no reason. Also, a good amount of these bored kids are heavily into drugs and some deal. In my neighborhood (what is considered an upper middle-class, very safe, neighborhood) I know of 2 kids that were dealing. One is currently on house arrest and one has stopped. There are a ton of places to eat in the city, and that's about it for entertainment. Nightlife is pretty much non-existant. Greensboro is a little better than winston, it has a much better nightlife and the drive to the raleigh/durham/chapel hill area is not bad at all.
  10. I think you overstepped some boundaries with that post case
  11. Just accepted my offer at UT, I'm really excited to get started there.
  12. I have also heard absolutely nothing from Michigan, it's the only school I'm still waiting on, but I'll probably accept my offer from another school before I hear from them. UPDATE: I just called to ask if an admissions decision had been made on my application, the lady just said "they're still processing your application." She didnt ask for my name or anything, kind of strange.
  13. I have lived in Georgia Tech housing for 4 long years. I can tell you that the department of housing is TERRIBLE at tech. It seems like they go out of their way to screw the students. This may be different in the GLC, but I really doubt it, especially since they allow undergrads to live in that housing as well. The only plus side of the housing is the internet connection, it is ridiculously fast, but it definitely does not outweigh the negatives of housing at tech. I may be ending up at tech for grad school and I can promise you that I will not be living in campus housing this year. Some of the better areas to live would be the Vinings area and Virginia Highlands if you can drive yourself. These areas are relatively safe, and nice for a pretty cheap price. There are also some pretty decent apartment buildings in walking distance of campus, one that I hear really good things about is the post-biltmore apartments. Hope this helps, and good luck with your apartment search. I hope if you decide to live in campus housing that you don't get screwed over nearly as much as I did for the last 4 years.
  14. What do you guys think about continuing to grad school at your undergrad school? So far for me it is my best offer in terms of money and academics. Anyone else in a similar situation?
