Confirmed. I called and spoke with Juilliard's lit mngr in March. They have already had interviews at this point so if you haven't been notified, sadly it's a no (letter is coming much later in their process which is really disappointing, wish they could cut us off EARLY so we're not holding out hope!).

@brillantina No clue re: system stuff that was a while back but I submitted (MFA Playwriting) in 2011-2012? with my friend's warning about the admissions process and lo and behold: they lost my first transcript. So I was ready for some BS.

Brooklyn is NOTORIOUS FOR LOSING APPLICATION MATERIALS. This is one of those rare occasions where you HAVE TO BE ON THEM. They lost my friend's application (Fiction Dept) in a drawer and if she had not been following up with them on a weekly (sometimes daily basis) she never would've gotten her acceptance. GET EM.

Crashed and burned back in 2012 (5 rejections, 2 interviews to wait list) but I'm back! With a different resume, new writing samples, and new recommenders! I am just applying to Juilliard this year (planning to apply to at least 4-5 schools for Fall 2020 - probably Yale, Iowa, a few schools in CA and maybe something abroad for the wild card option). Which yes - is nuts - but the last time I applied was right out of undergrad . . . and I still have their rejection letter (it was THAT nice). This forum was such a great space to relieve/vent some anxiety, keep up on the interview notifications, and prepare for the inevitable rejections. I also some met awesome playwrights who I still keep in touch with via social media (and are out doing amazing things) so I'm excited to try this grad school/fellowship game one last time. I'm also in a place where if it doesn't happen for me . . . it doesn't happen and I'll find another way to teach, network and create community in larger "theatre" cities.

Wowyeah. This is a pretty depressing day, despite some really positive feedback and encouragement as I submitted my applications. First thing: Twitter stalking? Very impressive. NEVER EVEN CROSSED MY MIND TO investigate. I did and unfortunately now it's pretty clear that I'm out of the running on the only option I had pending at this point. SO. I'm thinking about my back-up plan: regroup and reapply for Fall 2013. I was told I need a "self-imposed writing residency" that is to say - time to JUST focus on writing. I spread my time across a lot of mediums AND there is of course a day job required to support myself so my next move has got to be to hunker down, focus on just one thing. Work a dumb job, live very simply (save up money), and write like a motherfucker. I think for me in particular I only get quality when I get quantity in terms of pages. I know from insider scoop that this year was incredibly competitive for a lot of schools. We blew their MIiiiNDS. I hope everyone reading this and maybe feeling as glum and defeated as I do still feels proud of their work and accomplishments. I am 8 years out of school, published, produced (my writing sample is actually a finalist for two very big playwriting conferences/festivals) and clearly still have a long way baby. Time to focus on the work now. The reward will be a 2-3 year vacation, to ahem, do MORE WORK. Either way - we're working right?

Thanks for calling Yale. I had a feeling it would be this week . . . best of luck everyone! Headed out to San Diego this evening for an in-person visit with UCSD. Just waiting on the East Coast schools . . .

FYI I called Brooklyn College this morning - they said they should've had decisions last week but are running behind . . . so we should know in next week or two.

@jam2011 I applied to 7 schools total: Denied: Brown, UT-Austin Michener Interviews: UCSD and Cal Arts (Film program) And like errrrybuddy else - waiting on Yale, Brooklyn, NYU and @StaceyRose - I totally feel ya on that spark. It's been a rollercoaster. I thought I had UT in the bag and that was my first rejection . . . I will be lucky to get a final acceptance from any school but I'm prepped to pursue some low-res options or school of the "real world" if it doesn't happen this year. There is such a significant barrier in the field though - a whole other playing field for masters students/graduates. I just hope I get to play, you know?

Nada re: Yale . . . their email confirmation (from January) said the interviews take place the week of March 19-March 24 so I'm guessing they contact us this week? Otherwise how else would be able to coordinate travel and juggle day job/other commitments? Right? Right? I heard NYU rejections went out but I don't have one of those yet . . . nor do I have an interview or notification otherwise . . . Brooklyn was also supposed to let us know within 6-8 weeks which we are well over at this point . . . What is making me crazy (crazier? cray cray?) is that April is also the month we find out status on Bay Area Playwrights Festival, O'Neill, etc, etc. EVERYTHING IS FIGURED OUT NEXT MONTH. Stay calm and whatever. I'm not calm. I'm not even going to pretend like that is within the realm of possibility right now.

Also rejected from Brown yesterday - still waiting on Yale, NYU-Tisch, Brooklyn College. Interviewing with UCSD next week; Cal Arts (for Film Directing - my wild card program) this evening . . . at UT-Michener was a big ole no. I applied with a Screenwriting focus - references included current RTF faculty, alum and former Michener guest faculty, still NO DICE. Turned down interview with Tisch-Asia which I know might not be the smartest idea since I don't officially have an acceptance from any of my seven schools but I honestly do not see myself jetting to Singapore so best to leave that interview spot open for someone dying to get in Super anxious re: the final three East Coast schools . . . and of course my Cali contenders. Official freak out begins . . . NOW.

@Decaf Best of luck to you too! I do not have a background in writing for film aside from one college course and a few short film experiments. Most playwrights also have some TV/Film work under their belts to pay rent and I'm always interested in challenging forms so I figured it would be worth a try. UT's Michener program reportedly receives less applications in the Screenwriting focus group so I thought that might help my chances. Also Austin is my hometown and I know the theater program fairly well . . . I think the idea to do something completely different and challenging was a much bigger draw for me. Film Directing at Cal Arts is truly my wildcard. Aside from Tisch-Asia. I'm not allowed to even say the word "Singapore" around my mother Brooklyn College reported that we should have decisions within 6 weeks from the deadline which would mean sometime around mid February. They are also notorious for losing documentation (my friend applied a few years ago and they had her app in a desk drawer, so she didn't get notification about her status until late April!) so call em up if you aren't sure they received something. Definitely sent my stuff certified mail for that office just so I have record!

Howdy - just cranked out seven applications for Fall 2012 - Brown, UCSD, NYU-Tisch (NY but also opted in for Asia, why not?), Yale, UT-Michener, Cal Arts (Film Directing, the only program of its kind I'm applying to) and Brooklyn College. It's been seven years since I graduated from college - I first applied to Yale, Cal Arts and Julliard's certificate program as a senior in college and was rejected across the board (although Julliard wrote me the NICEST rejection letter I have ever, ever received. Will definitely re-apply after I get my MFA). I'm hoping that the years of experience I've had out of the school environment has helped my chances . . . and hopefully helped the writing too. I talked with a few students from some of the programs who had never even had a play published or produced before they came to graduate school . . . which was a big surprise but makes me think this all comes down to the writing sample itself and references. I sent UT a brand new screenplay (have never written one before) and for most schools I sent a brand new play that has only had the first half workshopped. UCSD asks for two writing samples so I thankfully that allows them to see an older play (which has been developed for years and produced) alongside my newer work, hopefully gives them a better scope on the range I represent. Excited to sweat it out with y'all (yes, I'm from Texas) over the next few months . . . as we await . . . our destinies. Also: I work in financial aid as my day job so I can help with any basic questions about federal aid. Definitely going to inform the final outcome for me but I cast the net wide (clearly) just to see what opportunities became available.
