  1. For people who (like me) haven't heard anything back, good or bad, from Tyler - I spoke to someone from their admissions department today and it seems we're still in the running even though we weren't contacted for interviews. The applicants that they decided not to admit after the first review were already notified. I got the impression that the people who have already had interview requests are certainly in the best standing, but the rest shouldn't necessarily despair. She even said a few people now and then are accepted without ever being asked to interview. The final results should go out by the end of the month. I'm in a tough spot because the deposit for NYAA to hold me a place is due on April 1, so if Tyler doesn't send a reply before then it's a problem. Hmmm...
  2. Thanks leetimko! It's good to hear about those aspects of the school - so far I hadn't been able to find any actual criticism of the place and it's nice to weigh that in. I haven't been able to make it over there to visit schools although I am from the States originally; plane tickets are crazy expensive. I'll definitely wait to hear back from Tyler, though it seems like they already contacted everyone who they wanted to interview so I'm just assuming I didn't make the cut. Good luck with your figurative work!
  3. I'm in a pickle....I found out last week that I got into NYAA, which was my first choice and PERFECT for me as I am a figurative painter. I know that the school is very well connected and that the student art there is terrific, but as I'd feared, they offered me very little help ($3k scholarship and tuition is $30,600). Otherwise I only applied to Tyler, where I don't think I've been accepted. I'm torn because I love NYAA's program, but have a hard time stomaching the debt I'd be getting myself into. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd really appreciate them!!
  4. Does anyone know of schools (other than NYAA, to which I'm already applying) with a slightly more traditional, technical, preferably figurative approach?
  5. oops - didn't mean to send just that! Ok here's the rest - I am VERY interested in doing an MFA at NYAA next year (I'm a figurative artist and it's definitely my top choice program). However, I'm a bit put off by the expense of living in NYC and the seeming lack of funding available at NYAA, since it's a private school. Do you have any advice about how to fund your MFA there? Also, do you know if there is an alum resource network I could contact to ask more questio...

  6. Hi, amandapants, I am a figurative artist (painting/drawing) and after looking at the NYAA video you posted and doing a little research into the school, I think it would be a VERY good fit for me. I'm wondering about the cost, though...I'm already pretty deep in debt from my undergrad degree (which isn't in art but in French Lit), and I'd like to avoid accumulating tens of thousands of dollars more in debt with an MFA so I've been trying to target schools that have good funding opportunities. What is the scholarship/funding situation like there at NYAA? And how do you fund the cost of living in New York while doing the MFA? As soon as I've got my website up and running I'll post it in my profile. Thanks in advance!! Amanda B.
