Anyone else regretting not applying to more schools?
Canukgirl replied to waitingNC's topic in Waiting it Out
I am not simply studing for the title or the prestigue. My first pick was UPenn- which I got rejected to yesterday by the way (wiping tears as we speak) and frankly in toronto canada poeople confuse UPenn with Penn State and don't even know UPenn is Ivy. But for me, when I say go big or go home, I just mean that there are certian schools that I know I will benifit from and yes some do have name recognition- but I am applying to MPA's and believe it or not when your passion is to serve the public- you still have to impress people to get the positions you want (Positions that will actually make and impact on society). Excuse me for sounding lame...I'm still in shock over my rejection to my dream school... -
Toronto is an AMAZING city for any student...that's why I haven't left for 28 yrs...lol...

Apparently they "misplaced" one of my transcripts and after almost ringing the neck of my old school thinking it was their fault, the lady at admissions called to say they have it...this was last week. So only last week did my file move from incomplete to complete. When I asked her if my file would still be reviews she said yes as it wil will go in with the next batch.... ....honestly I don't care at this point!

Very true..in addition to all my expirence I have an MBA in Finance and several courses in Econ, Stats and others that are already indcuded in the MPP.....so that's why I was probably asked if I wanted to switch....

I have worked for the government in Ontario and I also currently work for a top ranked consulting firm (global ranking), where one of my huge clients is the provincial government in Canada. I also am a volunteer advisor/consultant for a globally recognized NGO, where I deal with public policy. I also worked for a Canada's largest telecomunications company as Sr. Policy Analyst- dealing with Ethical Standards- among other things. Don't worry, just because we were asked if we wnated to switch does not mean anything. I thought it may have when I first posted here, but come to think of it really dosn't- the admissions people were just doning their jobs.

I am sure they accept all different types of people- including ones with mainly acedemic credentials...maybe that other student mis-spelled words in the perosnal statement or had a bad reference...it could be anything! Don't be discouraged!!! No has a clear cut advantage over anyone else. I persoanlly have amazing work/volunteer expirence, pretty sold undergrad/MBA gpa but CRAPPY (and I mean not ivy-league worthy) GRE scores....and I am still hoping for the best!
-
Hey...okay that's good to know!!....however the poster above mentioned that they have 5 ys w/e....Do you have another masters/advanced degree?
-
aww...<<>....are you a fellow Canadian??? Don't worry you will get tho wher you want to go? Just curious: you picked some very diverse schools Oregon and Irvin...UBC...why? also did you apply to York, UofT? They have some great Masters programs as well.

Anyone else regretting not applying to more schools?

I applied to 10 schools...I wanted to apply to Berkeley, WashU and a few others but missed the deadline. I regret not applying to more saftey schools BUT I am Canadaian and for me, I want to go BIG or go home...meaning if I am going to pay the crazy tuition in US dollars, it has to be a school where when I go back home its going to be beneficial.... Anyways, for me, if I dont get into those ten schools, I'd rather stick to my consulting job in Toronto....anyway anyone else feel the same way?? -
I agree Console. I know someone that was accepted last year with far lower scores....well defintley not anywhere close to the GRE scores. So no one should be discouraged just yet...you just never know what any school/program is looking for, no matter what they saod. PLUS they don't want all types A's either. They want a good mix of people....this is not to say SIPA isn't looking for bright, leader-potential people....
-
Wow, I guess I'm not getting in....people have already head back and I havn't...can't be a good sign. Anyone else apply to Fels and not heard back???
-
So, basically what happend is that the Director od Admissions emailed me and said that after reviewing my education and expirence, I would be qualified to apply for the MPA program and if I would like to switch over to the MPA applicant pool. Also I needed to re-do question #3 in the essay section to talk about why I feel the MPA would be better suited then the MPP for me. I did email back and asked him to switch me over and submitted my new essay. On the bright side- for you....I think they probably do an initial review of all applicants to ensure they have applied to the best suited program for them. Perhaps you should have asked, but being now that you can't you probably made a good decsion by stciking to MPP. It may be helpful to know if anyone else had a similar expirence to me b/c we can determain if it was a one off or not.
-
Did anyone else get the email from KSG that decsions will be available end of March? I am pretty sure everyone that applied should have gotten the same email...so why is there so much uncertainty as to when decsions come out. Also, I applied to the MPA Prgram- actually MPP but then the director of admissions asked me if I wanted to be concerderd for the MPA instead (by the way, anyone else get that request?) Good Luck to everyone!!!!!

The waiting is killing me and I know I'll probably get rejected. I wish they would tell me already so I can get on with my life!
-
Good Luck! It seems like good news...but it could be anything. It means that the grad school has to give its approval -wether decsion is good or bad.....but gain good luck <>

I applied to the MPP program initially. The I got an email from the admissions director, stating that after review of my expirences and academics, I may be better suited in the MPA pool (which does require more expirence and course work similar to the MPP already completed). I accepted their offer to be considered to MPA instead. Now, I KNOW this does not mean anything good for certian. BUT he obvioulsy looke at my credentials, so would they even bother with someone that they were not going to consider? Or is this just normal application procedures for everyone??? I know I am being lame right now...but I can't help it...I'm sooo nervous!
