  1. Yes! Let's all declare that we will not go to Kennedy unless they notify soon. Hopefully they have spies looking at Grad Cafe (the SIPA admissions director admitted he reads grad school admissions blogs) and that will prompt them to get the ball rolling.

Well who knows. But they (Harvard) have been honest the whole time about end of March date since the very beginning.

  2. Hi

I just got an e-mail informing me that I have been admitted into the MPA program and that scholarship decisions will come in by april 1st.

Anyone here who has already got a scholarship award? How generous are they?

Also,on the reputation of the program, does anyone here know if this school can provide opportunities later on with world bank,UN,etc?

I hope they get back abt the scholarship soon! everything depends on that!

    Sweet Congrats.

On with funding, I have not heard anything yet. From the acceptance letter, it told me that I decisions would be made in mid-March...So my guess is they are making their decisions this week and mail them out next week. But I think funding is pretty limited from what I have heard from folks and by reading the message boards and newspaper articles. Not a huge endowment like Harvard or Princeton per say.

As far as networking goes, they have a pretty good alumni here in the DC area. They also have a ton of older Alumni in the DC high up in jobs that can help you out and network with you.

Since, I was admitted and looking at other schools. I went to a Maxwell Alumni function in the DC area last week, and I was pretty impressed with the program and with folks there. :) It was a huge boast in making more of a decision to go there and of course depends on funding of course.

But as far as the UN goes, they have a huge network in the NYC area just as they do in the DC area.

    I hope this helps.

  3. There's no way acceptances have gone out yet. When the Princeton decisions went out, this board was very, very active. The same thing will happen when HKS goes out. I'm guessing some time between now and Wednesday too.

I am with you on this. I live and work in the DC area and there are quit a bite of us (and my friends) that are applying to the MPP program at Harvard. Even they have not heard yet or have not gotten an email yet...

  4. I applied there but I am still waiting like everyone else I guess :D

I called Gtown (for the MPP program) last week (I think it was Wednesday) and asked when decisions would go out with folks who have not heard yet. He said that it would be March 17 (tomorrow) and it would be through email. A few days later, they will mail out official letters.

  5. thank you for your response!!

I want a DC job in the end but Stanford's IPS and Berkeley's MPP seem to be very good programs and I wonder how much the CA location would hurt?

I applied to Georgetown and got in, but I think reputation wise it is inferior to Stanford or Berkeley, but I am not sure.

I also got into a PhD program in University of Maryland, College Park, and I know it is in DC but internationally and as a university on the whole, Stanford and Berkeley seem to be very strong and of a different calibre than Maryland.

What do you think? I am also waiting to hear from SAIS and SIPA.

    Thank you so much!

Well i am not too sure about comparing their programs.

I guess you have to see what concentration area you want to do and of course the school reputation.

Well as I have been narrowing down the schools, I have been talking to folks/professors/students that went to those schools. I would suggest to do it if you have not done so yet?

Have you visted the programs or any of them yet so that you get a feel of the campus setting or area? So you already have a Masters degree now?

As far as Stanford/UCLA goes, true those programs are good and if you go to them. I am not sure how to compare them wise. I have slowly been learning about MPP/MPA programs over the last 4 to 6 months.

I would just try to intern in DC when you can during the summers.

Let me know what you end up deciding.

  6. Hi,

I have a question about the IPS program at Stanford. How is it like compared to MPP programs such as that in GSPP, UCLA, or the MPA/ID in Harvard?

Would the job placements be similar? I want to work, ultimately, in development research organizations such as World Bank or international organizations such as the UN. Would the CA location hurt if I want DC, NY jobs where most of the international organizations are?

    thank you!!

    Hi Pepper12!

I will give you my input and then other folks can give you theirs if they like too. You kinda ask yourself where do you want to be down the road career wise?

I live here in DC right now and have been for the last 5 years. I can tell you networking here is really huge...DC is like a small town. But I am not sure about the NY area since I never lived there.

As far as Stanford comparing to other MPP programs...

As far as UCLA goes, I am not too familiar with the program...maybe someone else can comment.

As far as Harvard goes...the MPA/ID program is good and really well-known but it is only about 7 years old. Good luck in getting into that program. Harvard networking is huge wherever you go since it is recognized easily across the world.

Are you in undergrauduate school now? Or have you applied to Georgetown or George Washington or are you thinking about applying to graduate programs in the DC area?

Final Thoughts: If you want to do international organizations, like you stated above, I can tell you the DC area is the place to be. There are so many international organizations here, I cannot keep track. More and more seem to pop-up every day. If you don't go to school in the DC area, I STRONGLY recommend you intern during your summer breaks.

    Best of Luck!

  7. I am MPP.

Also looking at the Grad Cafe Results Form, I don't know if this has been discussed. But it looks like they send out admit/rejections at different times during the month of March for each separate program.

That is probably why the last email that they sent out (mid-Jan to late Jan) said that your application is complete and you should hear back by the end of March...Its probably because for the whole month of March they send out acceptance/rejections and it takes the whole month for all the HKS programs. Plus that would give them a buffer zone too I guess.

  8. You think that's nuts?? I keep refreshing this forum hoping someone, somewhere has some news already!!!!

    Now, that's NUTS...lol

According the Grad Cafe Results Forum, someone said they received an email about 11:42 AM on March 14, 2008 (last years admit). So my guess they are already on their way through the system if they are send out today. :o

  9. Huh. Looking at it again, that is poorly worded. I didn't even notice the first time. Wouldn't that be a horrible way to reject people?

    Hi Ya'll

I am applying to MPA and MBA schools and UT was one of them for MBA track.

I got the same type of email about 3 days ago. But I happen to log-in a few mintues and it said I got rejected which was not like that yesterday when I last checked. So why is it that I find out I get rejected from the Fiancial Aid Office (through an email) instead of the Admissions Office.

Anyways I think it is kinda crap system.

  10. sisepuede:

I wouldn't freak out if you did not receive this request. In addition to more than three years of work experience, the program's requirements include an advanced degree or some graduate-level work.

Well I got a Graduate Certificate (18 Graduate Hours) and they never asked to switch me. Plus I got 5 years of work experience and counting. I guess they want more folks of math/stat/finance background according to the Harvard Website :?

  11. Yep, I did have an MBA degree. Maybe that's why...

I heard this year's MPA2 applications do not increase as much as other programs( slightly increased indeed), that's one good news for us

Huhhh, I think I'll be spending my time the rest of this week in this board...

You got that right. I think I will be doing the same. Good thing the boss is out of town this week. 8)

  12. I spoke with a current student at HKS and she told me "definitely this Friday for those who get in". Take that how you will. She's not the divine authority of course, but she did seem quite certain for whatever reason. Maybe she is one of the callers?? I didn't ask (because that might put her in a delicate position of having to tell me I'm not on their lists!)

She also said she was notified on March 15th last year.

Good luck everyone - Friday is only two days away!

No I will not be able to sleep for the next 2 days. :)

    Good Luck to everyone :)

  13. I applied to the MPP program initially. The I got an email from the admissions director, stating that after review of my expirences and academics, I may be better suited in the MPA pool (which does require more expirence and course work similar to the MPP already completed). I accepted their offer to be considered to MPA instead.

Now, I KNOW this does not mean anything good for certian. BUT he obvioulsy looke at my credentials, so would they even bother with someone that they were not going to consider? Or is this just normal application procedures for everyone???

    I know I am being lame right now...but I can't help it...I'm sooo nervous!

I applied to the MPP Program at Harvard as well. However, I kinda wish I applied to the MPA program but I dont have the "four graduate courses" similar to the MPP courses. But I do have a Graduate Certificate in Homeland Security (18 Graduate Hours) and at least 5 years of work experience. I kinda hope the same thing does or can happen to me. Or maybe the MPP was meant for me I guess. Just have to wait and see. :D

  14. Hi Ya'll !!

I got into the MPA program, and I want to do the national security track. I sent my stuff in around late-Jan and hear back from them at the end of Feb. I hope to get some funding.

Right now, I live and work in DC. I plan on attending one of the Open Houses in April? Anyone going in April to visit?

  15. Did anyone else go to the Texas A&M-Bush School interviews last weekend? They had about 80 people, and 55-60 get in, so the odds are pretty decent. However, I'm still nervous because I was a marginal candidate (terrible GPA, great GRE and recommendations).

I know a friend who went to the interview conference in mid-Feb. Anyways, I applied there but I missed the priority deadline. So I am waiting to here back from them in order to make a decision too.

Did you apply for the MPSA or the MIA degree?

  16. I've heard from both mine.

I attended a meeting at the Naval Postgraduate School back in January and the dean listed what he felt were the top Security Studies programs. On that list were the usual suspects but one I'd not heard of - Kansas State University. Has anyone heard of this program? They have quite a list of distinguished faculty and it's a one-year program.

I have never heard of it until now. I wonder when the program got started though?

Here is the link if anyone is interested.
