  1. Awesome! Have fun hitomimay! And tell us all about it when you're back!
  2. I completely understand the agony. But really, it's only another month and a half, so it'll fly by quickly. I've been accepted to UNC Chapel Hill guys! It's a PhD in Education: Culture, Curriculum, and Change. No word on funding yet, so fingers crossed. Also, called Vanderbilt, and they said first round of offers for the Teaching and Learning PhD have gone out, so if anyone is waiting on that, we won't hear from them till April.
  3. FutureEdStudent12, I'm sure things will work out for you soon, and you'll be really happy wherever you end up going.
  4. Congrats, wildviolet! And I hope they welcome you nicely to the program soon!
  5. Hey everybody, my computer's been acting up so I've been missing for a bit. Congratulations to everyone who has got in, and good luck to everyone else! I was just wondering, has anyone here applied to Vanderbilt's Learning and Teaching PhD? Have you heard back from them?
  6. You guys don't know how much this means to me. It's been wonderful having you guys around all this while, and especially now. I'm really feeling much better already, and my plan B is looking pretty good actually. You guys are the best! Litjust, I spent the morning with my brother's kids. Nieces are the best stress-busters
  7. Rejected from HGSE Woke up when my phone received a new email notification at 3 AM my time (about 14 hours ago). So crept out of bed, go tot my computer, and checked my status. Not a great start to a weekend. Oh well. I didn't expect any different anyway. Also, thanfully, it wasn't my first choice Congratulations to everyone on their Stanford, Harvard, and UCLA admits! And good luck to everyone else. Everything that happens happens for a reason
  8. I'd go with USC all the way. My reasons are the same as what some others have mentioned here- especially this: Also, I agree with Wildviolet that for doctoral programs, it's the reputation of your faculty adviser that really counts. From what you've told us, USC really loved you. I've always felt that poorly funded master's programs are how universities cash in on their reputation- I wouldn't recommend those to anyone. So I'd stay away from Harvard and Stanford. (I'm also not sure how much you'll be able to accomplish in 9 months. I can't imagine it will be very much.)
  9. Thanks for the update, keepswimming I can't wait to hear from them. Maybe I should call and ask them about the Learning Sciences admissions. Is there anyone else who has applied to NU's LS program? Congratulations, Litjust! That sounds like a fantastic offer And, by the way, I really love that Arundhati Roy quote, too.
  10. I agree, just needed to hear it from someone else Thanks so much, wildviolet.
  11. Hey guys. I was away for the weekend- a friend got married on the beach! It was lovely, and I managed to forget about applications and grad school for a while. Congratulations to all who have had good news, and good luck to everyone else! I had a question- I'm getting a little nervous about one school I have applied to. I felt that my correspondence with a POI there had been very encouraging. Should I write to him now? And what do I say? I'm not even sure what the point of this email would be, but I feel like I need to know now what my chances at this school are. A little advice would help a lot!
  12. I never congratulated you personally on USC! Congratulations! Clearly they are excited to have you on board Forget SUSE, go USC!
  13. hitomimay, wayoutwest128, dm242, NOLAConstance: I genuinely think it's their loss. I'm sure the places you guys finally go to will cherish you and bring out the best in all of you. All the best for the rest of your applications I understand it's tough to get a rejection (ugh, hate that word), but I'm someone who believes that everything that happens really happens for the best. We'll all end up in great places and do all kinds of wonderful things in education. I'm convinced of it. Hang in there, y'all. *Hug* You took the words out of my mouth wildviolet, I certainly don't think it means you're second best. It's just a matter of fit- and as you pointed out, since SUSE has only two profs working in science ed, it must have been insanely difficult for the committee to select a really small number of applicants. So good luck on getting off the waitlist- irrespective of whether you decide to go to Stanford or not!
  14. Hey all! I've been awol for a bit now so it's really cool to be back! Especially considering all the good news everyone's got Congratulations to everyone, whether you've been called for an interview, or you've been accepted. And to those who haven't heard anything yet, I'm sure we all will soon, so hang tight!
  15. My sentiments exactly. Except I've forced myself not to subscribe to gradcafe updates But yes, February is really taking it's time! I just want to know and be done with it!
  16. Yes, that's the one I'm trying for And here I thought I was high-strung about the whole admissions thing Don't go into cardiac arrest! I'm sure you'll impress at your interviews
  17. Things are really starting to happen! This is so thirlling and nerve-racking. Congratulations to all those who have been accepted, and good luck to you guys who have interviews soon! Lilgreycells, do you mind me asking which program you've applied to at Peabody?
  18. You're not reading too much at all, I'd say. It's true that you never know till, well, you know, but it sounds like your call went off really well Shouldn't be too much longer till you get your decision now. So excited for you
  19. yes, we've done our best and that's really what counts. But here's a funny coincidence: I had the very same conversation with my mom a week back! Haha
  20. Yes, I think we should expect to hear from Harvard mid-Feb. Which really isn't that far away! I'm looking forward to this And congratulations on getting to interview with the professor! Have a great call and let us know how it went!
