  1. A close tie between Barfly and Total Eclipse.
  2. Remark, I'll be attending, as well. I look forward to meeting you. What are your research interests?
  3. University of Florida. Very excited.
  4. I've been an adjunct at a couple of community colleges and they were both strictly semester by semester contracts, partially due to the fact that it's part-time work for instructors who do intend to move on at the drop of a hat. That said, I wouldn't go out of my way to tell them you intend to be there only for the short-term. Though adjunct work as short-term is something, I think, of a tacit understanding, nobody wants to have to hire again if they don't need to. Hope that helps--and good luck with the interview!
  5. I wish, cquin. I'm flat broke, and will be for a while. I've already accepted their offer, however, so please do report back and let me know how it is (I may have to wait until August to find out for myself). Have fun!
  6. Has anyone accepted University of Florida's offer? Is anyone else worried about the stipend amount? Is anyone else planning to visit in the near future?
  7. (And I can't edit it anymore, but it should read: "In the process of notifying." Sorry.)
  8. Just in case anybody was waitlisted, I'll be declining my offer tomorrow. Good luck to everyone!
  9. So that Phd applicants maintain hope: I was just admitted today (Film and Media track). So, they seem to still be in the processing of notifying. Good luck, everyone!
  10. What do y'all think: would it be forward to send Dr. Wegner an e-mail asking about one's application status? I have to respond to a Canadian offer by March 21st, so.... Thoughts?
  11. Surely, they can't be done with acceptance phone calls...right?
  12. Congrats, NoYork! Were you the one who posted on the Results Board?
  13. While the offer of paying for the cost of a single night in a hotel was a nice gesture, I'm simply in no position financially to book a flight for a couple of weeks from now to attend an Open House (I live in Ohio, and assuming the cost would range in the several hundreds). Plus, I have this other thing I'm always forgetting I have to do--teach. Anyone else planning on going?
  14. That's how I read it, also, so at least we're not expected to pay the in-state/out-of-state difference (unless, of course, one is adamant about not becoming a Florida resident). But still, the funding leaves A LOT to be desired.
  15. Also, would the accepted person mind sharing their track/research interests?
  16. Someone posted an acceptance. Congrats to that person!
  17. Bum deal, Database. Was the e-mail from Dr. Wegner? Was it unsolicited?
  18. There's a MA rejection on the board. I wonder if this e-mail was solicited....
  19. Anybody else get their funding details in the mail yet? I did: 2/2 teaching load for 12.5K stipend. That's definitely rough. I'm not complaining about funding, per se, but, yeah, I'm kind of complaining....
  20. This. Last year I was told that I was "pretty high" on the waitlist which, in the end, seemed to be more of a consolation prize than it was an actual waitlist (see: wastelist). In their defense, however, all of their first-round offers (of which there were only 8 for literature) were accepted by the students--so perhaps that blind-sided them. In any event, I would be rather pleased to be accepted. Good luck to all of you!
  21. I haven't heard anything, either. Surely they MUST start notifications by next week, though, right?
  22. I didn't tell a school "yes" or "no" over the phone, but I did lie for no reason. They asked me what other schools I was still waiting on, and I said I was still only strongly considering "Insert Mediocre School Here" and that they hadn't secured funding yet. This wasn't even the truth--far from it, actually. I don't know why I did that--nervousness? Anyway, if they give you an offer over the phone, I'm sure they would be more happy than anything if you accepted it immediately. It saves them headache, allows them to move closer to cohort finalization, as well as make any adjustments to the waiting list (which, in turn, helps out fellow applicants). I think this notion of 'an-immediate-acceptance-of-offer-lowers-your-perceived-stock' notion overthinks and overdetermines what is actually going on.
