  1. Thanks for the advice, everyone!
  2. So there's a Rhet/Comp and a creative writing acceptance on the board. Congrats to those who received such good news! Anyone applying to Literature heard anything yet?
  3. Thanks for the help, y'all! I do appreciate it. I think I'm going to start by simply submitting my student visa application (with all questions answered honestly) and taking it from there. I hope your application cycles are going well, and do not involve sudden and strange issues of international stress. Thanks again!
  4. Getting information regarding my problem is more important than privately reserving my shameful secret in my already-anonymity, so: I was accepted to a Canadian university and would like to attend, but I am an American and, well, I kind of have a bit of a criminal record. Nothing too serious; just a couple of minor misdemeanor blemishes. The thing is, one of these "misdemeanors" was a DUI conviction. From my understanding, Canada takes DUI offenses rather seriously (and who can blame them for doing so?), as they are felonies there. This DUI offense happened about six years ago, and I am truly embarrassed by it, as well as remorseful. But what happened, happened. My question is: Will I be given a student visa with this on my record? I know that people have been refused even basic entry to Canada for short vacations with DUI convictions on their record. In short, I am extremely anxious and concerned about this. Any and all insights, advice, suggestions, information, etc. would really help me out. I appreciate it in advance. Thanks, and I hope everyone's application cycle is going well!

  6. I know the English department is conducting a job search for a tenure=track position, and this may be consuming a lot of time that would otherwise be devoted to the graduate admissions process.
  7. This thread is admittedly rather selfish: I was wondering if anyone has any information about the program (outside the information I would receive via normal protocol), and if they'd be willing to share it. Also, I am seeking out the admit to this program posted on the board. Please PM me!

  10. Is anyone else applying to Florida State English, and is anyone else getting rather anxious (seeing as how their first notifications over the past couple years went out before today's date)? Thought I'd go ahead and open up a thread on this, and if anyone has any "inside scoops" they are very much solicited and welcomed (obviously). Good luck to all those who applied!
  11. There's an acceptance posted for Brown's Modern Culture and Media. Any news on this?
  12. If this doesn't work out, I'm going to work for the Republican Party. ; )
  13. I, too, am applying to UMN's CSDS program. I did my undergraduate work there (in CSCL) during which time I had the opportunity to enroll in a few graduate (CSDS) seminars. The intellectual rigor and energy of the program is pretty amazing. Good luck to all of you! We should be hearing soon, right...!?!
  14. Does a "contact" necessarily mean getting in touch with a POI and discussing one's interest, or does contacting the DGS to ask about the program in general, or the admissions process, count as well? Also, I did contact some and not others, but I can follow the lead and answer as I get responses on a program-by-program basis.
  15. Congrats, Vordhosbntwin. You were spot-on about more invitations being extended. Good luck!
  16. I received an unsolicited rejection. It was short and to the point. Beyond that, the only thing I know is this: I received it about an hour after the first rejection was posted.
  17. There's an acceptance posted for UMN CSDS. Anybody wanna share info. on that? I was really hoping for that one.... (Also, forgive my lack of info.--picture, location, schools to which I applied, etc.--I'll put all that together soon).
