Killing it!!!! Way to be a superstar.

Hey hey, Michigan interviewees out there in the ether? Love to hear any details or just sai haiiiii (I'm a joint applicant with social work fwiw).
-
I haven't heard- SW&Anthro applicant. Mainly interested in medical anthropology and science and technology studies, specifically the biomedical treatment of gender nonconforming young people. Just finished my MSW at a different program in June.... Which may put me at a bit of a disadvantage in the joint program compared to the straight anthro programs I applied to.

Oooch... Friends, it seems likely that we might here good news from Berkeley next week! The first week of Feb always shows a couple acceptances on the survey. Anyone have any contact/dreams/premonitions abt the dept?
-
I'm one of the northwestern finalists. YAY!
-
I thought I was hanging in there pretty well but damn if knowing that northwestern is starting their invite process hasn't given me an extra "jumpy" quality this morning! Only one more week of january, folks. thank goodness.
-
Seems like from scoping the results list, news from Michigan is still a bit off. I applied to four programs and the only social work one is the joint program in social work and anthropology at UM- anyone else apply to that program?
-
2 interviews seems v. unlikely. Nice sweater, no pants. They will never know, and you will be extra comfortable! Unless its freezing where you are like where I am, then, nice sweater, three pairs of ugly but warm pants.
-
ah, okay. Soon?
-
BOOM. Get it. Are you going over a few days?

Heres to the Emory antho finalist! Wherever you are.

I think you might consider, also, trans studies as a discipline- places with strong gender studies and with trans scholars might create a more relevant intellectual community, though that doesn't always create the most hospitable work environment. In terms of living and breathing while a student or faculty, I know it certainly makes a differnece where your community is. Young gender variant people I have worked with have gone to graduate school elsewhere and really missed their community here, struggled with being misgendered more often, more offensively, etc- side effect from moving from a major city to a smaller, more southern one. So. But clearly trans* folks out there can speak best on their own experiences!

I can vouch for the CIC app- I ended up get two waivers through that process with minimal effort. I applied for waivers in November, which I think is an okay tineline- earlier is probably better!
-
I know via a current grad student (in a different field) that this weekend is the fist big sit down and go through applications session..... Even though it is only tangentially related it's making me slightly more frantic! January is so looooooooong.
-
For your LOR-writers, not with your apps. I think that might be a Lil weird.
-
Color me done. Cripes. I really, really hope I dont have to go thru this again :-/

god damn it the freaking fee waiver form and the freaking not right version of an (unofficial???) e-transcript and the flipping citation list that I checked a million times but now have a more than niggling (in fact pretty sure) feeling that 3/4 statements are missing a reference. i keep telling myself that i will go again next year because hopefully it will make the the potential disappointment less?

I'm taking ONE LAST LOOK at this SOP for UC and then my last application is going bye bye....ugh......i feel vaguely like i might die? anyone else almost/totally/not yet done with mixed feelings?
-
So early!!!! WhOoOaA

Me too smg. me, too.

On the upside... The ocean! Lake Michigan just can't quite do it for me and it would be a joy to be back in some kind of drizzle.
-
GAaaaaahhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhh. it'll be some sneaky, smelly, cornered off laundry room for me, i'm sure.
-
i'm hereeeeeeeeeeeeeee. but i don't have much to say. joint UCB/UCSF medical person. I have also heard that they strive to provide "competitive" funding (but I think you hit the nail on the head when you say the real problem is just how $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ it is to live in that area!)
-
I get not counting your chickens, but still- it is a great sign and (IMO) supports cautious optimism! I'd certainly feel v. pleased with meself.
-
Yeeeeeeehawwwww!!!! three cheers for that, dude. Was it someone you chatted with a bit before hand? God, I never imagined apps were looked at so soon..... Gaaaaaaaadzookes.
