  1. That criteria is only used for the Masters SSHRC competition. But yes, I believe they re-evaluate every application from scratch and then re-rank them. I hope this answers your question
  2. Sweet.. I don't think my department releases results to students though... so I will be waiting to receive my letter. Unfortunately, my letter is being mailed to my parents' house so I need to stop by their place before I find anything out!! When I asked my mom my results on the GRE she totally messed them up so I don't trust to ask her for SSHRC results
  3. I wonder if this prof is referring to the Doctoral Competition... I know our supervisors are also waiting to hear back about their competitions...
  4. Actually, I was very lucky to work with my current supervisor as undergrad and he provided me with the opportunity to be a co-author. Hopefully this summer I can submit my own research for publication
  5. I am hoping I have a good chance. There are only 4 of us left in the competition from my program and in the past there have been ~ 4 CGS awards and ~ 2 reg. SSHRCS awarded. I also have around the same # of pubs and more conferences ( at the time of application I had 1 peer-reviewed pub, 1 non-peer-reviewed, and 7 first author and 6 not as first author presentations at professional conferences) than the others applying from my program. I feel that my weakness is that I do not have an MA SSHRC. I am also #1 on the waitlist for FQRSC (with a score of 16.5/20). So I faired well in that competition. Only two of the senior students in my program won this award (they are going into their last year). I should also mention that I am going into my 1st year PhD in the fall. My fingers are crossed I currently work +25hours a week (not including my TAship) in addition to a full course load and seeing my clients for my practicum in order to pay rent and tuition as my program does not offer funding.. so anything would be really useful!
  6. Haha, very true!! We self-select... I looked on the SSHRC 2010 thread..and they only received their results May 7th.... I cannot wait another full week..
  7. I wonder if the people at SSHRC follow this forum and laugh at the amount of anxiety we display..
  8. I can't believe this. It is 4:00 and I have actually met my goals for today.... I think it is because I KNOW the results won't be here until next week... *sigh*
  9. I have ones from my university..but I heard that having MA SSHRC is really important.. I did not apply for MA SSHRC because I missed the GPA by 0.02....
  10. In my program, people are more likely to get SSHRC than FQRSC. I am also just about to enter my PhD and one of the criteria for FQRSC is the # of years you have been in school - sooo.. I think they tend to prefer students who have been studying for longer.. (they also require less $$ )
  11. It is also probably different depending on the committee....or subject: psychology vs. history..
  12. I think that is if you are just adding one more variable to what you have already done..... or something like that. I doubt anyone can be sure of what SSHRC likes, unless they are a prof who has sat on a committee....
  13. my topics are really different..i have heard stories on both sides of that argument. i have heard that they do not like it when they are too close though!
  14. AHH true.. if I don't get SSHRC, I will need to wait until June to hear back from FQRSC...this sounds dreadful....my supervisor wants to see a final draft of my thesis by June 20..... :S
  15. I need to work on my thesis but know I will only be able to once the results are finally here!!! hopefully this is soon so I do not fall too far behind.. SSHRC, look @ what you are doing to us
  16. Absolutely....I need to finish grading exams for the class that I TA...and it is not getting done.. I seem to have developed extreme symptoms of ADHD.
  17. Ducon, what committee were you on for FQRSC? I am also on the waitlist for my committee (1st).. I am just hoping if I do not get SSHRC that someone on my committee does (one of 8 people)!
  18. I think the decisions have been made.. it just takes awhile for them to write out and print off all the letters! That's my guess.
  19. This was posted last week though.... so I am a bit confused now! Last week they said this week!!
  20. When did he get that email? Last week or today? I am hoping it was last week!!
  21. Any thoughts as to when next week the letters will be mailed? Getting wait-listed for FQRSC makes me more anxious to get the SSHRC results!!
  22. Hi everyone, I heard back from FQRSC today. My committee had 30 applications and I am # 10. They offered 9 awards so I am # 1 on the waitlist. Only 1 person in my program was offered an award out of the few of us who applied. I am also from McGill and I received that same letter - but I think it is to get us off their backs. Also, MA students usually hear back from SSHRC after the Doctoral award applicants and this message was sent to everyone I trust what SSHRC says (in the next 2 weeks) over McGill's email.
  23. FQRSC released the Masters competition results today. I just want to hear from either, but it looks like an answer from FQRSC will come before SSHRC.
