  1. That is interesting. I asked the same question regarding the website, and was told that everyone would receive an e-mail. Some of us clearly have not. So, I do not know much that comment should necessarily be believed.
  2. Ironheel!!, I would agree with what others have written here. I think that RWGB is right, and that most committees have already met, so there seems but a small chance that the change would really matter to the department. That said, there seems to be no harm in e-mailing the DGS. More importantly - congratulations!
  3. Please allow me to second that. A hearty congratulations to all those who have been admitted to that august institution!
  4. For what it matters, I am another comparativist that was rejected by NU.
  5. Thanks, Ironheel!!. I appreciate that. Since I have resigned myself to getting a rejection from IU as well, I think that this draws the cycle to a close for me. Now I can more actively root for others to receive acceptances. :-)
  6. Whoops. I misread blaspheming's post, and then mistyped. I meant that one of my letter writers tried very hard to get me in there. They have a close relationship with a senior faculty member in the department, and they strongly advocated for my admission.
  7. I claim an NU rejection as well. This one burns a bit. Like blaspheming, I had a letter writer that tried very hard to get me in there. What is more, I have ties to the university, Ah well, you cannot win them all. Edited because I am apparently illiterate. Perhaps this is why NU rejected me.
  8. *whistles* A 1.000 batting average. Rogers Hornsby would certainly envy that. Congratulations, congratulations, congratulations.
  9. It is funny that you bring this up. Although it might be quite silly, I am so looking forward to confirming my decision by buying a school shirt.
  10. Yep. I was told that they would be made by the end of the week. Clearly, this has proven incorrect. I would volunteer to call them, but I have already done so a couple of times. At this point, they might have blocked my number. Any other brave souls willing to give it a try?
  11. Yes, I too am starting to get the impression that IU will only break my heart in this next week or so. Perhaps NU as well. At this point, with only those two schools to hear from, I simply wish to know the results.
  12. I do not know what we can really divine from the survey results posted thus far. It does seem as if many schools have adopted an incremental approach to releasing decisions this year. Perhaps the schools to which you applied have simply not yet notified all applicants. Perhaps no news is good news. Until a rejection note arrives, I would not assume the worst. For my part, I will send positive thoughts your way, and hope that you receive notices of acceptance soon.
  13. Congratulations! That is fantastic news, blackcofee64. I am elated for you!
  14. I was wondering this exact thing. Many, many, many congratulations, bauhaus!
  15. Frankly, I have little interest in the Asian-American aspect of the story. As a long-time basketball fan, I find it much more interesting that Lin went undrafted, but has still proven that he can be a decent guard in the league. While any talk about star status, or future accomplishments, is still premature, it is fascinating that someone who so many times passed on has done so well. (At the worst, Lin should be able to carve out a niche as a second- or third-string guard, who energizes the reserves with his tenacity and love for the game.) There are few modern examples of this. Flip Murray put together a nice stretch of games for Seattle a few years back, but his run did not last this long. In addition, his performances were, if memory serves, rather one dimensional. He could shoot, but do little more than that. Lin, on the other hand, has strong passing skills - along with an rather good understanding of the game. To me, perhaps the most fascinating part of this whole story is that Daryl Morey, GM of the Rockets, cut Lin. While Morey might make mistakes as a GM, he is among the best talent evaluators in the league. I do agree that Lin must play many more games before we can render a definitive verdict as to his talent. That said, I would take him over Melo now. Of course, my judgment on that point might be biased - I am a Denverite.
  16. Congratulations on that, blackcoffee64. It seems that it would be quite a good experience.
  17. I agree. Good news should be imminent. Also, my offer to personally harass DU still stands. If necessary, I can make a sign and picket the department.
  18. Yes, I am. While my hopes might not be grounded on much, my expectations usually are. More seriously, I spoke with the Ms. Syskowski last Friday. She indicated that notifications should be sent out by this Friday. So, there is reason to hope, it seems.
  19. I am expecting NU to release more notifications tomorrow or the next day. I hope for tomorrow. Edited because I am spelling impaired.
  20. Congratulations, CooCooCachoo. I would assume that you will have more options by the end of the cycle, but I know what a relief it is to receive that first acceptance. Also - congrats are in order for those who have claimed acceptances to UG, UVa, Columbia, Cornell, Conneticut, Arizona, WUSTL, Binghamton, and Kentucky. It is fulfulling to see so many people from this forum receive good news.
  21. Just spoke with the lovely Ms. Laroche at IU. According to her, the committee will be meeting in the next couple of days, and decisions will be sent via e-mail. I am not sure how many people here have applied to Indiana, but I thought that a few forum members might like to read this news.
  22. Ah, well, I suppose that this process has not yet sapped me of my optimism. In hindsight, it was silly to assume that they might have reconsidered. At the moment, however, it seemed the best possible explanation. I mean, why wouldn't they?
  23. So, UCSD just scared me. They sent an e-mail with the subject line "This e-mail contains a link to important information regarding your application to Ph.D. of Political Science, UCSD." As I had already been denied, this note caught me be surprise. For a moment, I thought that they had reconsidered. Alas, they had not. I logged in to their application system, checked the messages tab as expected, and saw a note about their Master of Pacific and International Relations program. Did anyone else get one of these notes? I imagine that they are just canned marketing messages, but I am curious to know if anyone else received one, or if anyone knows why the school sends them out at all . . .
  24. I am sorry to hear that, grantman. Surely, it is their loss.
