  1. If I could, I would give you +1000 reputation points for the reference and photo. How I empathized with Bastian when I was young!
  2. I just wanted to state that I share the same ambition. While I enjoy research, I do like teaching more. Besides, this path seems more realistic at the moment. There are surely more 4-4 positions out there than 2-2 positions.
  3. I feel much the same way. If only I would hear from NU and IU, I could then begin making my own decision. Alas, it seems like IU might not notify for quite some time yet.
  4. Congrats, bauhaus. That is tremendous news! On a different note, I think that someone asked about NU admissions. I called the office on Friday (Yes, I am persistent - probably too much; I know this) and the graduate secretary said that decisions should be finished by the end of the week.
  5. Oh. Good prompt. I would love to roll up to my department in a retro Zil - something like this.
  6. Rejected at UCSD. At least I do not have to worry about being able to afford living in San Diego. Congrats to all those who have received acceptances from Maryland, MIT, NYU, San Diego - and any other schools that I missed.
  7. Speaking of Petersons - how reliable is their data? I seem to remember reading someone in this forum state that their numbers are a bit out of date. Does anyone know if Petersons is a reputable source?
  8. A UCSD acceptance has been posted. Would anyone like to claim that? I now wait with much anxiety for UCSD, Northwestern, and Pitt. I would not mind so much being rejected at each of those schools, but I would very much like to know one way or another. If only schools notified en masse . . .
  9. Well, at least you wouldn't have to worry about the blender then. More seriously - good counterpoint. As for a response - I have got nothing. So, I repeat: Good luck!
  10. I wanted to say two things: 1) Good luck! 2) While you might have, unfortunately, been shrunken, you have not (presumably) lost any mass. A pencil-sized human that possess the mass of normal individual should be able to tip over the blender pretty easily. It cannot be harder, at any rate, than completing a doctoral thesis . . .
  11. I was just admitted into a program. After receiving the news, I revisited my SOP. To my surprise, I had done exactly what you did. Yet, I still wound up admitted. So, I would not assume too much at this point. They still could admit you.
  12. Exactly. I just thought something similar. At this point, surving another day without an NU rejection seems a victory in and of itself.
  13. I concur completely. There is, I think, an innate nobility to pursuing the intellectual life. I applaud everyone who has embarked on this path, and am honored to enter the same profession as you all.
  14. Though I am a bit late in posting this, I just wanted to congratulate all those who have received good news over the past 24 hours. It is nice to see that so many of the forum members here have been successful this application season. Edited for errors.
  15. Quite right. In addition, the pun was not that bad, whirlibird. I barely cringed.
  16. I would agree with that. Thank you for creating this thread, Ironheel!!. It was a great idea. As for me, I only applied to one top-15 program (i.e. UCSD) - and only a lark. I am very doubtful about my chances there, or at any school in the top 30.
  17. grantman, you should remain confident that acceptances are waiting for you in the near future. I cannot say much about many of the schools to which you have applied, but as a someone who has spent 10 of his last 13 years in the Denver area, I will personally protest at DU if they do not admit you. As for Vanderbilt - it seems that they will miss out on many good political scientists.
  18. I am certainly no expert in these things, but I think that it is too early to worry about NU. Yes, a couple of acceptances have been posted, but this does not mean that they are necessarily done admitting either students, in general, or theorists, in particular. Since so many schools seem to be accepting people in waves, I am assuming that NU will do the same this year. I could be wrong, in the end, but I think it best that we all keep are chins up for now. There will be plenty of time for despair later.
  19. Another NU acceptance has been posted. Wow. I am surprised. Looks like it will be a very busy week . . .
  20. Yeah. As I wrote earlier, I was told that they would not be notifying for a while yet. So I am confused - happy for whoever was accepted, but confused.
  21. Yes, any info about that admission would be appreciated. (Congrats to the person who received the acceptance, by the way!)
  22. Congrats! That is quite the accomplishment!
  23. Agreed. Let us rather think, and hope, that the worst has passed - and that each remaining weekday will bring better news.
